Window regulator failure
Window regulator failure
As usual, I parked my car and locked the doors and went inside. After an hour I went to car to pick up my mom from work and after seeing rear left window open all the way down I'm like wtf?
Then I checked everything to see if anything was stolen; nope everything was in place.
Then I thought maybe the thief got scared by the alarm and got away... Or the window mechanizm just died after holding up 166k miles?
I started the car and tried to lift the window but the motor did click-click but it couldn't lift the window. Today I opened it and the problem was the regulator itself. But my question is, does anyone in the org had broken window regulator where the window just falls down or it's just me?
Or maybe someone tried to break into my car?

in my dad's max, the regulator in the front driver side door went around 201K and the rear passenger side window went around 175K. He too, came out from work one day to find his windows down and was like wtf? hahaha, apparently a very common problem with out cars.
btw, where in baltimore are you?

I have a 1995 Maxima with 215k miles. I just now started doing my own maintenance and (hopefully) repairs. So I found these forums a few months ago. Only today did I sign up. I left my car at the airport for a week and picked it up yesterday. I may as well have written the OP, because it describes my exact circumstances (including the clicking noise) and thought process (nothing was stolen). It is the RP window.
I haven't opened the door panel up yet, but suppose I should order a regulator first? I suppose I'll start doing a web search for where to buy, but suggestions would be appreciated as well.

contact fanaticrockford, that guy has used parts up the wahzoo. You can find him by looking in the 4th gen classifieds. He should be able to get you a used, but working regulator for cheap.
welcome to the org!

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the advice on Mr. fanaticrockford, although I may just choose to buy new, being that it is a part that is prone to failure. I see it with motor for $66.23 at "carpartswholesale.com" and just now came back from Pep Boys where it was special order around $170 (with motor). Might as well get it online.
Incidentally, is it typically the motor that fails? I see that some places offer it for slightly less without the motor.

hey i was wondering, one of my friends decided to be dumb, and hit my window and so it starts rolling down, and now its stuck down. I removed the panel to try and see whats wrong. So would yall think its just off the tracks or he totally broke the regulator?
In my experience it's almost always the regulator frame/cable NOT the motor. Both my rear's went last year at around 162k and 166k respectively. My father's 3rd gen went and everytime it was the cable or some plastic part associated with it. If you have any issues after installing your new one (ie. window does not go all the way up, try swapping out the two screws that hold the glass onto the track. On my RR regulator one of the screw's threads were worn at the edge and would not hold the glass under load causing the window to go up crooked. I swapped it with another in the area and problem was solved.
For those of you looking for pictures I used this guide the first time (it's for a 3rd gen. but procedure is the same). It's really easy to do but I always like pictures to follow. **Make sure you use a lot of downward force on the screws holding the motor to the regulator, they are on there tight!
