Cracked rear main seal, HELP

I am leaking oil because my rear main seal is cracked. I have been losing about a quart a day and replacing it. The oil drips down and burns on my exhaust and causes my car to smoke a lot.

To get this fixed does the tranny need to be dropped? I have been told only the clutch needs to be removed, and now this guy is telling me the whole transmission needs to be dropped. Please help.

You have to remove the transmission to get to the clutch to remove it

Yup. If you gonna swap your rear main seal, might as well swap your clutch...

If the clutch has to be removed, the tranny has to be removed.

In order to PROPERLY replace the rear main seal, the tranny needs to be dropped, clutch and flywheel removed, y pipe removed, and bottom end dropped.

yea, that; or do a motor swap!
time to get a vq30-dek!!

EDIT: just saw u live in philly; the dek would be kind of expensive, and hard to come by
you should go to the passyunk strip and check the junkyards there to see if there are any of your motors sitting there
may be better if you find a nice low mileage one
