I have the 8500 blue led and I love it.

The bands available on the 8500 are:

X band - Was popular in the past not hardly used here in california

k band - Sheriffs here use this band, but also old tech and most automatic doors at shopping malls will set k off

ka band - Highway patrol plus state troopers use this one and is one of the later techs. If you see this on the 8500, 100% it's a cop, slow down!

laser - New tech used here in california but rare and very hard to detect the shooter, it is instant on

pop - Now i'm a little confused on this one, it is used here and sometimes I get a hit but I believe they cannot write you up ticket on it.

I maybe missing somethings, so if others know please let everyone know.

Mods this is not in the correct area, please move it to the correct area, this may help others.

Auto for most part, highway when on highway, city when really in the city, if you use your detector then

Bands:
X-mostly remote doors now, not many cops use it
K-Half cops, half doors
Ka-always cops
Laser-cops, and nail on the brakes, cause this doesnt give much warning

Auto is the worst mode. It gives the most falses out of all 3. Use highway or city, very simple

Durrrr... ..no it doesnt, City has the most filtering, then auto, then highway, so highway will give the most falses under the same conditions when compared to city and auto, auto is middle ground

The only thing City mode filters more of is X band. Auto mode filters everything. And highway filters nothing. Im saying in proper usage (such as using city in the city and highway on the highway) auto falses way more than either of them.

IMO theres no point to using Auto. The detector is basically deciding for itself what radar is a threat and which isnt.

Alright that makes more sense, I still disagree and on my 8500 X50, i run it in highway or auto almost exclusively, but you make more sense now.

I've said it a million + times:

If you want a radar detector, there are 4 choices:

Bel RX65, Escort 8500 X50, Valentine One, Bel STi

Thats it, id rather give my money to a guy like radar roy than to a local cop, just me
