Need Help Fast: Rear Brake Job...

Folks,

In the process of doing my rear brakes. I've hit a snag and need your help.

1. Is there a tool to use that compresses the brake piston? I am using a wood clamp that is working, but I'm beating the heck out of the clamp and am bending it.
2. When I compress the piston, the rubber grommet around it is just folding up. Normally the rubber will compress into a normal looking shape. But this time, it's just folding up, looking like it's going to split/burst. Is this normal?

I don't want to split it or break it. Any help would be great.

Stop that now!!!! You must twist the piston back in.

turn the piston to get it to go back in. You can not just push it in like the front brakes. It helps a lot to go get the tool from autozone or similar store. It costs about $10 and they will kno0w what you are talking about if you ask them for it. (turn it clockwise to make it go back in)

Then, if the piston won't turn in, you have seized-up calipers, pretty common on the rears.

I wouldn't really recommend it but you can use a needle nose pliers and twist it back in, but that's if you have no other option.

Complete!

Folks,

Thanx for the help! I actually got the tool at the auto part store for $8. I agree it was NOT really required, could have done it with needle nose plyers. but the tool worked fine.

Also, had a heck of a time with the 2 brake. You MUST align the piston at 3-Oclock so that the little notch on the brake pad lines up with the notch in the piston. Otherwise the bolts for the torque member will NOT align. I spent about an extra 40 minutes until I figured this out.

Thanx again for the tips!
