installed car sound CAT....no where to put heat shield

So yesterday I installed my warpspeed y-pipe and carsound high flow catalytic converter.....everything was easy except for removing one of the nuts on the down flange of the stock y-pipe.....i had to saw between the flex and second pre-cat to get a better look at it and finally get it out. Removing the rusted bolts on the catalytic converter turned out to be fairly easy. I torched the bolts until they were glowing hot and sprayed cold water on them and they cranked right off.

This install was my first mod and figured I throw a couple of questions out before I start riding on it. The original cat converter had holes for the heat shield...the carsound cat doesn't. Is the heat shield absolutely necessary for the Cat converter to function properly? I don't know how to put the heat shield on otherwise.

And as far as the rubber grommet and mount bracket goes....the stock one was rusted to the cat so I'm trashing it. SHould I get another one? Without a heat shield I figure there will be no rattling thus no need for a mounting bracket right? Could this possibly destroy the flex section on the y-pipe?

Any input on this is appreciated.

Get a hanger for the cat to Y pipe, other wise the flex will stretch and go bad.
Dont worry about a heat shield.

The cat I got from Cattman had a built-in mini heat shield. Heat shield protects...??? What does it shield heat from?

you can toss the heatshield....as long as you have no wiring or fuel lines down there, the shield is unnecessary.
