I just finished putting in new pads, front and rear. No more squealing!!! I bought Nissan pads and hardware kits and they seem to work much better than adtermarket parts. I would like thank everyone who answered my questions about those v-shaped retaining springs. Thanks guys!

my brakes have been squealing for about 6 months now. i went to have them looked at about 2 months ago and the guys at the nissan dealer by me said that the last person who installed the pads did not prep them correctly before installing the pads. so, they wanted $230 to shave the pads. no thanks. i am debating on whether or not to go aftermarket (axxis metal masters) or stick with nissan parts. have you tried both? and as far as the install, is this something i should try on my own or get done professionally? i am an amateur with a pretty decent tool collection. thanks for any help!

Pad replacement may be done by the home mechanic. The Haynes repair manual has good coverage of this subject, better even than the factory service manual. Read Haynes and then decide if this is something you can handle. It probably is!
