yes but the 98 had a y-pipe (15-25hp) that should have gave him the edge... and to answer the second part of the comment, in a way i do kinda agree that 4" is kinda for style, but, it would make the car sound a lil more sportier and look better

THE TIP MEANS NOTHING IN TERMS OF PERFORMANCE!! Are you even thinking logically about this? How would a 4"tip be any better than a 2.5" tip to match the rest of the piping!? Like NmexMax said, it is after the muffler which slows the exhaust flow the most. The tip is just for style. PERIOD. And with style, that includes looks and sound, but not performance.

Second, comparing two Maximas at the strip, do you think driver ability has nothing to do with them? Do we know they are both 5-spds? Too many variables from a few 1/4 mile runs to determine anything. Go dyno them each a few times on the same day under the same elements and then we'll talk. Until then, nothing can be determined.

If you are getting a catback but no y-pipe, you are obviously just going for style. Get whatever sounds the best or looks the best to you. The performance gains from a catback are minimal, especially without a y-pipe, so in a sense, they will all perform the same.

I say a 2.25" system (as long as it's mandrel-bent) from the y-pipe on back, with an A33 or A33B muffler. It won't be obnoxiously loud, won't sound like a civic, and won't lose you any power. 2.5" is overkill unless you have plans beyond really basic mods, trust me on that one.

Don't get a cheap eBay fart can, and don't get something that's got like a 5" tip on it, either.

I've had experience with both stock setup and 2.5" setup and can say that there was no difference between the two unless your motor is putting down some serious power. From a costs standpoint, if done at a custom exhaust shop, you'll pay the same for 2.25" .065 wall 304L SS as you will 2.5" .065 wall 304L SS. If you're looking for good quality on a budget, get the Budget B pipe with resonator for $240 shipped and the 2k muffler section for $233 from DaveB the parts guy.

turst me dude, i agree with you 100%, all im doing is answering the first question ask, and my answer was if your thinking 2.25 catback with 2.25 exhaust, FINE, but if you should throw in a y-pipe the car gets too noisy thats all im saying. i also said later that if your not doing anything serious then go with whatever

A y pipe will do just fine.

high flow cats really aren't worth it for NA either.
