Hi there,

Over the last few months I have been transporting Servers for work in my car to one of our Datacenters

This has caused 2 rips in my vinyl on my rear door (they are too big for the trunk.

Does anyone know if those vinyl repair kits on late night TV work?

I'm considering getting on and trying to fix the panels....my car doesn't have 1 scratch on it, except this, and I don't want the rips to get worse.

If that stuff doesn't work, anyone know if body shops or detail shops can repair this stuff, or do I have to buy whole new door panels???

Thanks,
Ian Sweeney

How about a junk yard? Just call around to get another panel.

I called around, and the junkyards here in Seattle usually just leave the cars out in the rain, thereby destroying th panels...they do take seats out and store them, but not the panels...strange, I know...but 4 junkyards told me that...besides, when they do have them in good condition, they're still $100

Hmmm.......

The only option left is try the repair kit you saw on TV. It doesn't hurt anyway, because if you screw up, you have get another panel.

Also, open your yellow pages and find auto upholstery section. Maybe they can help.

When you find a way to get them fixed would you post it? I also have a couple of little rips in my front passenger door. Thanks.

Well, I just had a new windshield installed on my car and the technician accidently put a rip in my dashboard above the VIN number on the driver's side front dashboard. Although I am not happy with that, the supervisor of the company that installed the windshield is convering all expenses to have it repaired. When they repair it, I will tell you how they did it, I too am interested since I have a "glitch" on my rear driver's side door panel. Later all.

How About........

How about a Luggare Repair Company....
I used to work for an airline and frequently had vinyl ( and leather ) luggage items repaired for our passengers. They did very good work and the cost was very very reasonable. You might try calling one of the large airlines in your city and ask them if there is a local company they use.
