Squeeking from front end!!
hey everyone...quick question for you all --
i've noticed recently when i go over any size bump in the road i hear a squeeking noise coming from the front end of my car. it sounds like its coming from the wheelwell or maybe the underside of the car, somewhere near the axel (i'm pretty sure on both sides of the car). any ideas??? i'm not quite sure where to start looking for this problem.
Thanks!

It could be many things, here are a few:
- the spring coils rubbing against each other or the coil rubbing on the lower perch of the strut. There is a rubber insulator that often chews thru and allows metal-on-metal. Just put your hand on the spring and jounce the corner of the car up and down. If you hear the noise and feel it in the spring, that's the problem.
- the swaybar bushing at the subframe sometimes gets pinched/rubbed thru and makes squeaking noises. Solution: install a new bushing, use some grease on it, and deburr the edges of the metal bracket.
- i guess the ball joints could make noise, but usually they don't. They might pop a little bit, but anyway I would say it's very unlikely to be the problem.
- if you have urethane bushings in your front suspension, these can squeak if the grease gets squeezed out and they go dry.
