Yes, but when the car is able to start correctly, they are nice to have.

I'd also like to add that whenever I start my car in the cold, it does idle around 1500-2000 rpms for the first 30-60 seconds before settling below 1000 rpms. It is just the car warming up and is completly normal.

Yeah I do agree that when working normally a remote starter would be nice to have.

the other morning before school, it was -26 out and my Max was dead. Wouldn't fire for beans. Since then, a bottle of Heet went into the tank, it was jumped by a Ford Focus, and I've hooked the battery up to a trickle charger overnight. Never goes below freezing in LA? Must be nice. We've had single digit highs recently.

is the IACV supposed to go bad after cleaning it?? well about 2 weeks ago, i cleaned out the IACV & TB, and since then the SES light has been on, and the code shows up for the IACV. i had it replaced and yet the SES light came back on after clearing the codes. I threw on the old one, and yet the same thing. Also, the same thing is happening to the Bank 1 Sensor 2 (O2 Sensor), but i left the new one on. From what i believe, its guzzling gas and im fed up with it.

Could it be an electrical problem? I had several mechanics check it out at my garage, and i took it to a few people i know and there saying the same thing.

I also have start up problems such as when im starting it up, it'll try to start up and in 6 seconds, it seems like its draining out the battery, and a sec after it starts up.

ANY help is appreciated!!

My car has this same issue. It did it a few times recently, but only when its really cold, 20* or below. or whenever it sits for a long period of time in cold weather. Otherwise its been fine. 98k miles, I guess its just something these cars do.

impossible, these cars dont "just do it" i dotn believe thatm there has to be a common problem, would there not be a recall if everyones max did this for no reason ?

i know the cars are getting over 10 years old for some people now, but thats still ridiculous how they cant start in cold weather. my 91 buick never did that (and BTW its tranny was flawless)!!

take THAT maxima!!!

Yay!!! i fixxed it.. so i pulled the code for the tps the other day, so i adjusted it so that it was at .57ohm closed, now it starts perfectly, no problems what so ever, give it a try!

yeah I'm sure there is a comon problem, hence why a lot of maximas have trouble in the cold. That's probably a problem made from production. They are old cars...yuo should drive that buick more often if it's so much better than the max.

well, i my car would start up and die, repeat, repeat, until i gave it gas to keep it running. So if you look in the write up section, there is a writeup for adjusting the tps. so wut i did was hook up the ohm meter to the 1 and 2 pin of the tps sensor. i rotated the sensor until the ohms read .57, around .5 is what it should be. and today it started right up in the morning, and after sitting in the parking lot it started with no problems. Before it seemed like it had no cold idle, like i would start it and it would just run at about 800rpm, not it jumps to 1500 rpm til it warms up.

yeah that 91 buick regal was the $hit, pure oldschool american boat, great for having sex in the back seat cause its like one big couch, maybe if there ever was a BUICK.ORG i would still drive it

too bad, i had some problems with that car so got rid of it after like 4 months. i always loved the pissed off look of the max so NO i wount go back to a buick.....for now! ;-)

I had that problem and I cleaned the TB and the IAC and now it starts right up, idle's perfect, and is more resonsive. You have to make sure you clean that throttle body real good where the plate opens and closes. That gunk in there hardens and creates a little air leak because the plate doesn't shut all the way.

It was single digits here last night and she started right up with no struggle or revving this morning. I'm glad I fixed my starting problems before this cold weather hit!

Here is something to think about: What type of gas are you guys using?

My usual gas is 87 octane, Two fill ups ago i put in Ultra 94 octane gas and a STP Fuel Injector cleaner, after that my last fill up was 91 octane. The problem has not happened since i put in Ultra 94 gas, this seems strange but I have read on some Nissan help bulletin that this problem is common on our cars, it said something like when the car is cold at start up the oxygen/gasoline mixture is too rich in gas and does not combust properly on first crank, applying the gas pedal at startup fixes this by forcefully burning the galonine rich mixture.

I think I'll stick to 91 Octane gas for now.
