Would this work?

I was wondering, would this transmission work with a maxima? I know that usually a fwd cant be converted with the engine turned for a fwd. But I also have heard of people bolting up 300zx trannys to there maximas. Is this a possibility?

I'm really not seeing how you can get that to work without MAJOR modification. It would first involve rotating the engine 90 degrees so it sits longitudinal and not transverse in the engine bay (that's assuming the tranny bell would even bolt up to the engine). And, that tranny is for AWD, so again, not seeing how you'd be able to utilize the rear drive shaft or get rid of it to use it for FWD only. Unless you're trying to turn your maxima into a skyline and have the money to do it, forget about this.

hey, i'm not trying to shoot you down.....just making you realize that by the time you're done making this work, you could have imported your own skyline...ok, maybe not, but def just not worth it. I love my max too, but damn, not that much to turn it into something WAY beyond what it was intended to be. But to each his own.

In regards to what you heard about people bolting up their Maxima engines to z trannies, they were probably referring to their 3rd gen with a VG engine......

On the other hand, anything is possible with a little bit of imagination, a little bit of knowledge, and a lot of money............

If it's a matter of saving some money on a decently priced tranny, it won't pay off in the long run with the amount of work and money you'd have to invest. It's a FWD car and that is a RWD tranny.
