Anyone made mudflaps?

My I30 currently has the little ones up front, but im thinking i might get some pretty thin aluminum and make ones that would lne up with the holes already thare, but be much larger so hopefully they would keep my car from getting covered in snow and worse yet salt every 20 secconds.

Something like this but not as stupid looking hopefully

This would obviously be just for the rough part of the winter, what do you guys think?

Thanks

Definitely don't make it out of aluminum or anything rigid. First of all, it'll be noisy as hell as crap hits it, but mostly because one speed bump, or hunk of ice or anything, and it'll rip off, or cause damage to your fender. You need something soft, that'll give. If yu wanna make oversized mudflaps, you're best bet is to use something soft like rubber/plastic.

I was thinking about that problem today as I considered washing my car for the 3rd time this week. I have an old rubbermaid trash can that I'm going to cut up and make myself a pair for the front. Go for it, and thanks for the idea.

For all the effort, you can pick up universal rubber mud flaps at any automotive store for like $10.

I would just buy a set. They probably won't do much anyways.

If your flaps are long enough and wide enough, they'll do a REALLY good job of keeping crap off the paint. However, they'll be pretty big and pretty fugly. I wouldn't be surprised if they also increased road/wind noise as well.
