KYB GR-2 or AGX? Please help.

Hello guys! I just bought a 97 Maxima. I want to change the shocks in the car and I live in NY. Which one is better for the roads in NY? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks a lot! =)

If you're just looking to change the dampers and not the springs, GR-2s will be fine.

+1. GR-2s are meant for stock or mildly lowered/sprung cars, whereas AGX are meant more for lowered cars.

AGX's

I've got a '97 also. I put the AGX's on last summer with stock spings. I chose them because I wanted to have the option of adjusting the damping for a firmer ride, if I was in the mood, or a stock ride. I also adjust for different seasons, softer for low temps in the winter. I found that I liked the settings that were equivalent to the GR2's in the summer. The GR2's are supposed to be 15% stiffer than stock. So, if price enters into your equation and you're not changing the springs you could be very happy with the GR2's.

Most people who knock them are lowered...

Like a shopping cart... with stock springs? Your point of reference must be a Lincoln Town Car...

GR-2 should be fine all around with no drop.....it will be alil firmer than stock. I would pay up a lil more for the AGX...AGX will probbaly last you a lil longer too.

personal preferance. my 130k se shocks sucked a D***. replaced em with GR2's and i like it a LOT better.

I wasn't trying to be funny. I was just making a point. No one's saying GR-2s aren't firmer than stock. But they're not "stiff as fawk", and they're definitely not crappy with stock springs. They give a slightly firmer, more controlled ride.

I also had SE dampers before switching to GR-2s (mine had 90k on them). The ride definitely got slightly firmer, but it wasn't exactly a night-and-day difference. The fact that they cut down on the bouncing and wallowing more than made up for it.

Clearly the math didn't work out that way for you (i.e. the control wasn't worth the firmness), and that's okay. But they're really not as bad as you're making them out to be.

they arent as good as ur making them seem either... control wise they didnt really make any difference between stock and se.. i did notice that especially when its cold they are even stiffer and all the body roll is still there... iv driven other maximas with them on as well and they are the same... if u like a stiff ride that still has a bunch of body rolll then get them.. if u want a smooth ride with less body roll get the blues or illuminas...
