starts when cranked twice only
Hi Guys,
I have a problem maybe you can help out.
10% of the time, my car start immediate when I turn the key.
90% of the time, it makes the usual noise, but the engine will not start. Then I stop and turn the key again, and then the engine starts and everything is fine.
Could this be a problem with the battery? It is relatively new so this is unlikely.
Could this be a problem with the starter? 97 with 150,000 miles.
Thanks,
James

This is also dependent on the age of the engine and its compression.
Are you saying the car won't start on the first turn of the starter, or you need to try cranking twice to get it to start?

clarification
To clearify:
I turn the key and the starter starts cranking. The engine does not turn on. I stop after 3 seconds. I crank again, and the engine turn on immediately.
Thanks for the feedback.
