if your timing chain is making noise, is it ok to still drive it?

From what I've heard, thats a very common problem on these cars. And most people do drive with the loud chain for a while. I'm pretty sure nissan had a new tensioner kit that helped this noise.

theoretically, timing chains will last the lifetime of the car, but like fox said, a new tensioner might help some.

My car makes a whining sound around the timingchain/belts area. Any ideas on what this can be.

thanks
