how low can you go?????

hi, i have a 95 maxima and i got some tein s tech lowering springs, only thing i'm not comfertable with is the drop: 2,2 fronts and 1.8 rears. i saw somewhere that some strut makers ie: tokico and kyb? wont garauntee the shocks past 1,5 and 1.3. is this true? also, i have new (within the past year) tokico's oem put on at dealer, what strut's should i go with and is the drop ok?? do i need to replace rear struts? any help from you guys would be appreciated!!!

just a footnote; just the rear shocks were replaced at dealer, not the fronts. so, can i mix the struts or keep them all the same?? thanks in advance <<<<<<< maxaholic>>>>>>

so you are running oem struts up front? if so id HIGHLY advise against running s-techs on oem struts..unless of course you enjoy riding on the bumpstops all day. If you got tokico oem's im assuming tokico HP/blues? or are you reffering to factory oem struts, which happen to be made by tokico?

the s tech drop most people will recommend AGX/illuminas/koni's.

Most people probably wont even recommend s-techs because there too soft for that much of a drop.

for something as important as suspension, i would not recommend going cheap, do it right the first time and save yourself the trouble of ending up doing it again. Thats how im doing it, ive got lowering springs at home(sprints), and trust me it is tempting to throw them on, but i know for a fact that my factory struts would blow about 5 minutes after i lower the car. actually i suspect there about to kick the bucket soon.(oem struts with 182K miles)

AGXs and Illuminas will be warrantied. Even GR-2s are warrantied with SOME drop, but I think that the max drop for those is 1.5" lower than stock. Check the KYB website for more info.

Also, be aware that in most cases you have to buy them NEW to get the warranty.

First, they are Gr-2s, not Mr-2s. An MR2 is a mid-engined Toyota.

Second, you CAN mix and match OEM struts in the rear and aftermarket struts in the front, but don't expect the factory rears to last very long with S-techs. If you had H&Rs or Tein H-techs, maybe. But the drop on S-techs is too low to have any hope of OEM struts- new or not- to survive for more than a few months, even with granny-driving.

ok, worked it out with the seller on e-bay(i hope) he's gonna swap the teins for tokico's hp spring and strut set. about $379.00 shipped. now i gotta find a good garage to install that won't rape me on labor. i talked to the seller on the phone, he said 150 to 175.00 labor and about 15 to 20 minutes a wheel and i said thats at least 200.00 less than what these scam artists in pa are asking for labor. o also need front bearing plates as well, looks like im waitin a little while till i get an extra 500.00 or so to finish up this deal. and yah i had an mr-2, i was tired when i ityped that post.

Would an Eibach pro-kit do well with stock struts? How long til you think the struts will go out?

Just for comparison, i ran CUT Megan Racing springs for probably over 7 months and 10+k miles and had no issues with my struts blowing whatsoever. Wheelgap was about 1.5 fingers on a 225/45/17 tire, so it was pretty low. Difference between our cars is my struts had about 85k miles when i first dropped it, and yours have like what, 145k-150k now? You should be ok for a while, but i recommend you do it right the first time and save up for a good setup (ksports!!!!)

edit: this was on pretty rough roads too, drove on i275 four days a week, and i'm sure you know how 275 is.

Why do you need front bearing plates? WTH are front bearing plates? I have done suspension 20+ times on a 4th gen and have never seen a "bearing plate."
