TPS Ohm question

I am trying to adjust the TPS on my 1995 Maxima. The first one I tried I set the closed setting to .5 ohm, but when I went WOT it only went up to 3.6 ohm, and according to my haynes manual it is suposed to go to 4.0 ohm at WOT. So I tried another one that I had sitting around. I set this one to .5 ohm closed and when I went WOT with this one It went to 4.36 ohm. I ended up using the second one I tried, but are they both bad? The first one I tried was only a half year old, I have been having idling problems and I am thinking this may have been causing some of it. What do you guys think? Is the one I am using now OK? Thanks for any help.

ok 3.6k ohm and 4k ohm is the same thing.. what u have to do is slowly open the throttle and measure the resistance and watch the ohm meter for a dead spot..

How are they the same thing? I don't understand that. In the manual it does not mention anything about having a variance.

By dead spot, do you mean a spot where I am moving the Throttle and there is no movement on the ohm meter?

That would be a dead spot....and 3.6 and 4 are almost the same. Yeah the number is different but it's very close. You should not be able to open the throttle to wot and get 4.36. Too much.

BTW: you should be setting the tps with feeler gauges

if ur car have a/t that should be have two section, one is tps from o.5 ohm to 3.6 ohm it is ok.the other one is TP SWITCH it used for a/t , if u can find out the ohm at the throttle close switch point, that should be approximately 0.5 ohm, at tps, u don't need to care the wide open how much is.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.

feeler gauges? I always thought you were suposed to use a multi meter with the red a black feelers. I am touching the red feeler to #2 spade and then I am touching the black feeler to #3 spade. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes.

You need to take a .3mm feeler gauge and stick it between the that stopper screw and the throttle ear then measure between 5 and 6 I THINK on the WOT switch. There should be a reading on the multimeter. Then you take out the .3mm and insert a .4mm and then redo the readings and you should show NOTHING on the multimeter. There is a Tiny tiny sweet spot where the reading is correct. Takes about 20 min to do beacuse every time you tighten the screws down, the readings get messed up...give it some time and patients and youll get it

can you please post a link or picture of a feeler gauge you are talking about. I don't know what they are. Also I only have a one plug TPS. I only have 1-2-3 I don't have a plug for the other three spades.

Right, then you dont have to adjust it with the feeler gauges...the way your doing it is right

your TPS only have one plug, my opinion is not suited for your car, follow Mr.Matt's idea that will be help to you. but be paying much more patience, trying and trying than get the sweet point. Good Luck. PS. don't adjust the screws on the fast idle, otherwise that will be have more confusion.

I don't know what you are talking about. The single plug TPS was stock on my 95 maxima. Not all fourth gens had two plugs on the TPS (though most of them did). Also to the best of my knowledge it is adjusted correctly.
