Filler Tube

The Maxima dealership told me that my filler tube (I think) has a leak in it. It only leaks when I fill up my gas tank. What do you recommend I do? I would like to fix it myself if I can, seeing that another tube + labor costs about 250they told me. Where can I find the tube on the underside of my car and where is the hole most likely to be?

I was quoted over $750 for the filler neck for my '02. At $250, I'd have them do it.

That could be dangerous. I'd fix it.
And you must mean the "Nissan dealership?" Unless there is a place that only sells Maximas?

You can go to a tank place that does all kinda of gas tanks and such, they can rebuild it.I have to get mine done mine is 180 i think, also i went to nissan they charged me 280 for new one not put in.Its rediculous i know.So go to a tank shop and see what it will cost.

Also i had a inspection to be done and i thought if they see that my car agian going to pass.so i went to the local canadain tire and picked myself up a roll of alluminum tape and black rubberized undercoating.Got home, and wrapped some around the pipe and whole, sprayed a thick coat of undercoating and let it harden. It worked for a couple days then the gas started to leak out when i was putting it in. So then i got some more allum. tape and put it around the whole and pipe again. Then i reached up and squeezed my hand around the tape and pipe to fit it nice and tight.Been going 4 months of winter now and it still is holding strong, but because of my evap monitoring im have it fixed.Thats what i suggest for a temporary fix untill you get the money.Good luck

just fix it. you wont get passed emissions. even if you do youll be killing the enviroment with all those hydrocarbons escaping your tank. and probably have a CEL on if not now, than shortly since the EVAP monitoring system picks up extremely small leaks.
