I bought my mother a Compustar CM4200 for her 03 Sentra Se/R for x-mas. She loves it and hasnt had any problems with it.

Im planning on buying the Compustar Pro P2W9000FMR for my I30 very soon, It has a lot more features than just a remote start tho.

i have the viper 2 way alarm. works great. except for the time when i thought the car was in neutral how i always leave it but was in 1st. I remote started and i watched the maxima jump forward hop a curb drive over 10 feet of grass and run into another car parked on the other side of the grass border. The car was still in gear though and was going with force. It stopped against the SUVs bumper but the front tires of the car were still spinning on the grass, ripping it up. The driver tire hit some curb and started smoking as the rubber burned. I fumbled the remote buttons and kept trying to open the driver door as i pressed unlock so it wasnt opening. I ended up going in through the rear door and lowering the barely pulled e-brake to trigger the automatic shut-off. HAHAHA it was kind of funny actually looking back.

blueice's install wasn't correct. A properly installed remote start won't fire up if in gear. Check out the ICE forum, there's more info there.

No probs w/my RS, and it doesn't start when I'm in gear.

I've done hornet remote starts in a couple cars. It's an ok remote start, but no alarm. Spend the little extra and get the alarm and keyless entry with it.

Because the Hornet is just a remote start, is that going to have any effect on my factory keyless entry? I got it as a gift and could care less for the other features. I just want to be able to start the car without having to walk outside in freezing weather in the morning.

You should still be able to use the factory keyless, but you'll need to carry both remotes.

When installed correctly and with quality products, there should not be a major problem with remote starters.

With that being said, no problems here

yeah, as long as you pick a reputable brand, and get it installed at a good shop, you will be fine. it may cost you a lil more than gettin the guy that lives down the street to do it, but it will be well worth it if you have any trouble. since most likely they will fix it free...

If it's a Viper/Clifford and installed by an authorized dealer/installer, you get lifetime warranty on parts and labor.

correct, it was hacked in.

It's not really funny either, they've destroyed things before.. id suggest he gets it fixed before something happens, like it kills someone.

man i know what u mean. it almost happened to me. i have the viper 791xv 2 way pager. i always leave the car in neutral but my dad moved it onto the grass next to the road and left it in 1st. i remote started it and saw it jump and start moving. i thought my heart was gonna fall out. as soon as i saw that i quickly hit the orange button twice to disengage and it shut off. its scary to think what would have happened if it kept going and there was oncoming traffic.

i had my alarm hooked up when it was still auto. when i did the 5 speed swap, my uncle that did the swap made it where the car can start without pressing on the clutch. so basically it start just like an auto. i don't know if this is why mine starts in gear?

He bypassed the clutch wire. Hopefully it's hooked up to neutral safety switch as well?

there is no remote start for manuals (when installed properly) that will start while in gear, unless it was improperly installed. there IS a neutral safety wire on all our gen maximas, which really helps.. basically it shows ground in neutral and nothing in any gear, and the starter will only start remotely when it sees the ground.

If anyone needs one done soon please pm me im off from work this week so i can fit you in my heated garage . I always try to go with a directed product because i personally have never seen any of them fail unless improperly installed but thats with any type of electronic component.

I recently bought a Prostart 2-way communication remote starter.

Can anyone tell me where I could download a Factory Service Manual for my 1995 Maxima? I remember I was able to download from this site for free before.

As well, do I need to have a bypass module for the remote starter?

Thanks.

I have a '96 Auto with a DEI (Viper?). Came w/1 fob. Have been using for 3 years, mainly in the winter months for the Mrs. She also likes a cool car in the summer but I think that's a waste of fuel. Didn't get the alarm as I think they're a waste of money. Buy insurance if you want to protect your losses, but if somebody really wants your car, they're gonna take it.

dannydarkman: I think there's cheat-sheets for alarms in the ICE forum FAQ.

noshacal: Alarm's cool, it can lower your insurance premium. Or just a blinky light. =)

The place that installed mine did a hack job on just about everything ive ever had them do for me so I stopped going there. They disengaged the clutch wire so mine can start with the clutch engaged. I just didnt have my e-brake pulled up hard enough to stop the car from rolling.

I was panicking and didnt even remember I could turn it off with the orange button. All I could think of was getting into the car and hitting the brakes to shut the engine off. I know I should get them to rewire it and will do so when I have time. For now I just havent used the remote start since that happened.

I have had 2 different ones , the bulldog and one from ebay, they both worked with no problems other than guessing the right ignition wires (it will crank but won't start ordeal). They are worth their weight in gold for convenience. Also the newer ones work with manual so get that if you have a manual if other people drive your car or if you tend to forget to leave it in neutral. I and my wife always leave it in neutral so I just have it set on automatic car.

For those of you who use them, why?

To impress friends. To warm up / cool down the interior? Thwart assassins?

I knew a federal judge in NJ who had a remote installed to trigger any bombs that might be attached to the car. Serious.

I use it because it saves me having to go outside in the cold and start my car, so i can just stay inside and start it and get it nice and warm for me. Also a little to impress my friends they get jealous when they get into a cold car and i get into a warm car without havng to go outside.

New England weather. When it's 2 degrees outside, it's nice to know the ice on the windows is already defrosted a little. It's a lot easier to scrape off that way. That means you get out of the cold that much faster and the car is that much warmer when you get into it.

i think some of them you can progarm it to where you can have the car say whatever it wants with a voice recorder you can program your voice into it. for the alarm if iam not mistaken. i love the siren sound when you unlock the cars on the viper alarm systems. my friend has a viper alarm in his camaro its awsome.
