Knock sensor is in.

Saved myself a bunch of cash from you guys, a few extensions and it really wasn't too hard, 62$ off ebay, and shes in, although i must say its impossible to torque it perfectly in that hole. Ohh, and yes my fingers are nice and bloody, but worth the extra $$$$ saved

Thanks folks

Its always a good feeling to get maintenance/repairs done on your own and you save money on doing it.

Now relax get some cookies and juice and let your body regenerate the blood you lost

IMO, using a socket, swivel, and extension isn't the best way to do it. If you have a gear wrench and know how to 'slip' another wrench on for leverage do it like that, the trick is to disconnect the green top half of the connector in the way and get your hand in there first without the wrenches, and then hand yourself the 1st wrench, suprisingly the cheater wrench used for leverage to break it loose will fit under the intake stuff that appears to be in the way. JUST MY $.02!! If you go the extension route, you need to use one longer than 4 or 5" with a 3/8" swivel on the end.

A 12" extension, 3/8" u-joint and socket worked just fine for me. Took me 15 minutes to get the old one out and put in the new one.

no luck with replacement of knock sensor

i finally got my knock sensor in the mail... and i got the two 6 inch extensions connected to eachother... and i cant get enough torque to loosen the bolt... i tried until the socket stayed stuck on the bolt and my ratchet wouldnt come out... dont know what to do anymore... i just may fork over the cash for the labor, at least i saved some cash on the sensor.... any suggestions?

that's why I like using a wrench and then another wrench with the box end hooked onto the open-end of the first wrench, you get tons of leverage that way and it's a breeze

I think 20 ft lbs is the recommended torque value. You don't want too much leverage!!

try to find someone with small hands. I'm 6'2" but my moms only 5'4" and she has tiny hands, I enlisted her to change the knock sensor for me. i tried for 20 minutes with extensions, then it took her all of 5 minutes to change it.

I must admit, the day it went i knew it right away, checked, and there was the code, but i wired around it for a few months, so obviously i didnt notice any difference.

I don't know how all of you manage to get your hand in there. I couldn't even get close to touching the sensor with my fingertips and my hand was as far as it would go, and yes, I did leave a blood sacrifice for my engine. I guess I will either have to have the girlfriend use her tiny hand or take off the IM when the weather warms up.

Its difficult to get a hand by a green electrical connector right in front of the space where the KS is. How did you guys manage to get by that?

It was weird when I was changing it...when I was installing the new one, at first I used my right hand, and I could barely touch the screw of the KS. Then after so long, I tried my left hand, and it fit perfectly under the IM. I guess it was the angle or something I was trying to get in.

Lol nah my hands too big I'm heavy handed. I had my baby mom stick her little *** hand under the intake manifold to get the socket perfectly on top, an POP it snapped loose, and she retrieved the old ks for me and put it back in.

I received my knock sensor and checked it out. I'm able to get my hand in there to get it out so no extension needed. I did find that using the left hand does give you a slightly better angle be able to slide in there but D@mn it is a tight fit

I finally got the KS replaced..reset the ECU and checked it after starting the car, only code there was the 0505, no failure. As aznstormin said, could only fit my left hand in there...barely....so i put dishwashing soap on my hand (palm and back, not the fingers) to allow it to slide in easier. Started to thread the bolt by hand and torqued it to 18 lbs. You guys were a help with your suggestion...thanks

check the codes in your ECU....if it throws a 0304 code, then you need to change your KS.

The KS offered on ebay is an Nissan sensor.... I torqued the KS with the 3/8" extension with a micrometer-style torque wrench. Now I know that its not loose or too tight. I was a pig in $h1t last night when I felt the power return....the tranny shifts better now since the torque curve is where its supposed to be... VQ's rule
