First, I have a question for anyone who's had experience with car bras or hood protectors. I have always heard that bras and hood protectors cause the paint underneath them to be a different shade than the rest of the car. Does anyone know if this is true? I have always thought that it was because the area under the protection would not receive sunlight and this could cause a discoloration from the rest of the car. However, I have read about a magnetic hood protector that they guarantee won't damage your paint. They say that the discoloration is from water and grit that gets under the protector and causes the color to fade. The magentic bra is just that. It is kept in place kind of like a magnet and creates a seal that won't allow water and dirt to under it. It is kept in place with the magentism plus it is hooked under the hood similar to other hood protectors. I am trying to find something that will protect my hood from rock chips, etc. Also, can someone tell me the difference between GTS VentGuards, Ventvisor, and GTS Sportgard Window Air Deflectors? I am looking for those black plastic pieces that go over the door windows and I am looking for some good ones. Any recommendations are appreciated.

the paint fades due to sunlight, i gaurantee hat my car isnt as bright of a red as it was brand new, the part under he bra doesnt fade, but the sun fades the rest of the car so if it is on for a long time you will notice differences in the color if you took it off
my opinion... dont take this personally
bras? hood protectors? ventvisors? name 3 things i would never put on my car
i have a sunroof visor that came with the spoiler and i think the side window ones wouldnt be bad, but i wouldnt want a big black thing on my front, unless i could match it to body color, now that may be interesting

I have a magnet bra on my 99 SE. I like the look. I don't know about long time wear though, since I have only had it on about two weeks.

Bras

I have a bra, but I think that if you wash the car weekly and take it off there isn't much of a difference...and plus, why would you take it off at all? When it wears out you buy a new one.

Come on!!

Give me a break. I HATE those cheesey things. They look so cheap. Like you just ran to Kragen and bought whatever they sell for you car. Go for the clean look! Take the money you would be spending on bras, bug guards, wind deflectors, pin striping, chain license frames, mud guards, and direct it towards something useful (and most importantly - not ugly). Go buy yourself a CAI, FSTB, RASB, clear corners, etc. with that money. Something useful that doesn't degrade your nice car.

I'll be driving between Dallas and Austin every 2 weeks so I considered a bra, but I really don't like them either. I figure after 5-10 years I'll either repaint my hood or just pick up a carbon fiber one Wear and tear is unpreventable especially on the highway, so you may be better off applying your money to future addons rather than trying to maintain.

Exactly

That's how I feel too. The argument for a bra is to protect your nose from rock chips (which are ugly) but guess what? A bra is ugly! So you are putting something ugly on your car to keep it from getting ugly. Hmmm...

Check out magnetbra.com. The guy will sell it for $25 if you e-mail him, too. That is half price. Sorry, I don't have pics, but there is a pic of a Max w/ it on on the site.

For you guys that don't like bras on cars: Do you live in the country, where it snows and freezes, where they dump 1/4" cinder gravel on all the main roads all winter long for snow and ice traction? If you did, and saw how paint gets blasted off the front of cars get in jsut a year or two, you might change your mind about protecting your car part of the time.

Bra's should be taken off when not needed, so one can see and feel and enjoy the fine, natural curves of a w,,,,,,,,ooops. Got a little carried away there.

I have perfect paint under my nose mask. Use it correctly and it protects your car. Abuse it and you will damage the paint under it.

I have seen damage that has been done to cars with bras. I have seen a lot of paint damage from not being taken off on a timely manner. Of course these are the extreme cases but I still do not recommend a bra. I got a clear bra installed on my 350Z and it cam out mint. It is made by 3M and a lot of dealers has it as an add on option. It was a little expensive but I highly recommend it. The cost was roughly $550 installed. They have a kit that include bumper, hood and mirrors. They also have a kit for the headlights. I got some custom work and it cover the sills of the doors and the area right below the gas cap.

I gotta say though, when your front bumper has paint peeling off it because someone in your family doesn't know how to look behind them when backing out of the driveway, a Bra looks a hell of a lot better and cleaner.
