Opinion: Budget or Cat Y-Pipe

Besides the obvious difference in price, which in your opinion is better quality/sound. And also, if anyone lives around Tacoma/University Place, WA, how much would you install it for?

warpspeed y-pipe & hi-flo cat is the best for both value and performance in my opinion, and they sell the two of those as a package deal on ebay for about $290 with free shipping. seller name is "warpspeedperformance" if you're interested. if you're getting the y-pipe i'd suggest getting the cat while you're at it, especially if you have a higher-mileage max/i30.

Well I hate to post in here since it's probably the 1,000,000 time it's been asked......yes you are paying for the name but no, quality is not the same. Cattman is better than budget. It is made differently and has a different sound. For y-pipes I don't believe that its just paying for names. They are made differently since they make different effects on your exhaust. If you have the money go cattman.

BTW: Do not get a "high-flow" cat. They are a waster of money. Stock cat is 2.5" I/O and aftermarkter exhaust is 2.5" as well. No need to buy a "high-flow" cat. That's something you're paying for by name. People see "high-flow" and say oh ok should give more hp. Nope. Maybe 1hp if you have a completely new exhaust.

people, like me too, buy a hi-flow cat because they are cheaper than factory OEM cats and it's a pain in the butt to just change a Y-pipe especially with the rust between the Y-pipe and the cat. Best thing to do is replace the whole exhaust at the same time from the headers back to the muffler because rust will own you.

no doubt its easiest to install the whole thing at once but most people dont do that, and if you're cat is in fine working condition its still a waste of money to buy a high flow cat. You take the Y and the cat off together and seperate them not under the car. Plus, he's having to work done so a shop would be able to get the y off alone. If you must replace the whole system at once a high flow cat is cheaper but most people don't do that, and that's not the question.

it's not a waste of money to me to have something thats not rusted.

try to take the cat off the cat back........rusted

A high-flow cat is like 120. it's worth it

thats fine I'm not going to yell at you about your opinion so don't yell at me about mine. In my opinion, if the cat is clean and working on the inside (not the outside) then it's a waste to buy a new one.

How does a b-pipe differ from a y-pipe and are they both needed. Also if i dont run a resonator will i end up with that stupid civic sound?

y-pipe connects each manifold. and aftermarket one does not have cats in it so it gives you more horsepower. A B-pipe includes a resonator and connects to the axleback (muffler), it's the pipe from the main cat back.

if you dont have a resonator your car will be LOUD and inside the car you will have to talk louder. it might sound a little gross too.

Well it won't be that loud if you have a stock muffler. The resonator will make it a little louder but with stock muffler, you'll still be pretty quiet. Aftermarket b pipe will give a few extra horses with the y. It's worth it if you're thinking of buying one.

i felt a difference with my budget y-pipe and budget b-pipe and stock muffler. it's def faster and more powerful. i cant wait to get my HKS muffler. the stock muffler i got doesnt bolt up to the budget b-pipe. i guess the muffler flange is smaller. it's just as quiet as stock but when i get on it i can hear the leak. overall it's a very quiet unit.

If you pay an exhaust shop to do it make sure you get your stock y-pipe back so you can bring it to the scrap-metal yard yourself, it's worth about $40

A B-pipe is the pipe right after the cat and its good for some hp but not as much as the y-pipe. And get one WITH A RESONATOR! I made the mistake and getting one without a resonator and i get pulled over atleast once a week and thats guaranteed so now i am chainging to the greddy exhaust system. I should have just done it right the first time.

Are you serious, i cant imagine it being that loud even without a resonator. Does it atleast sound good?
