smell

i have a bad gas like smell coming through my vents when i turn the heater on. at 10plus speeds it doesn't smell but when i slow down it comes back but after the car has been running for awhile the smell goes away even at a stop....thinking about taking it to pep boys and see whats wrong with it. i looked under the hood and no leaks

CEL? poor mileage? Any smell under the hood at startup? When is the last time you did a tuneup? Last time you ran a fuel system treatment?

I had the same thing on my 94.. There would be a random gas smell that would come through the vents.. No leaks anywhere and no other signs to pinpoint the issue!! It was some sort of anomaly I just couldn't figure out...

I had this happen in my 87 Ford truck back when I was 17. I ignored it until anti-freeze started coming out of the vent and collected on the windshield when the defroster was going. Heater Core was junk, had to replace it. I considered it briefly before I decided to just replace the truck with a 94 max

so the heater core would make it smell like that? Wouldn't the heater core make the cel go off? If thats a dumb question then excuuuuuse me. Im getting good gas mileage so its not like im losing gas...no cel light on either..

Heater core wont make a gasoline smell unless you are msitaking the smell for gas). A heater core wont set off the check engine light.

This was a problem in the 3rd gen maxima's. I had it in my '91. You have to replace the fuel line all the way through the fuel rails. They crack in the cold and then you get the smell. In the summer time, you don't notice it because the heat makes the cracks close. Look through the 3rd gen forums for specifics. I think there may still be a sticky with that problem addressed. You notice it when you stop because at normal speeds, the smell gets dispersed.

Pep Boys only figures out how to screw you out, not help or figure things out for you. Take it somewhere else if you weren't being sarcastic.
