Maxima "versus" Lotus Elise

Heres a clip of me rolling on a track day and encountering a Lotus Elise. A car that Ive been wishing I could own. Well the good news is that if you deck out your max to the max and drive at 9/10ths, you can hang with a Lotus driving at 8/10ths.

Cheers!

PS. pardon the grunts/etc- the adrenaline was flowing.. :-)

hot damn, you got to get down on Tskuba! lucky man!

Is that corner tricky corner at the top of TskubA that infamous corner, is its as tricky as it looks? Its one thing it pull it off in GT4 but a whole other to actually take the corner in real like.

cutting some nice lines too. Great Video!

Thanks folks!

Whats up Ceasar!! Howzit?

A couple replies to questions-

Top speed on main straightaway b4 braking approx 105-110 MPH

Tires - 205/50/15 Toyo RA-1 on 15x6.5 wheels (wish I had wider wheels, but next set of tires I will bump it to 225/50/15 I think)

Track was not wet, but first session the following day was wet from overnight rain. Made for a really fun time since I was the only one going for it and I passed like everyone. Actually I should post a vid of that because there was a Ferrari race car on track (taking it really easy).

Shifting - I have to shift kind of easy, the clutch needs a second to settle before WOT or else it kind of 'warbles' - its better now, since a while back it would actually slip :-(

And now for some shamelessly 'borrowed' images (until I purchase them)

Just wondering, how exactly do you get to drive on Laguna Seca? I'm planning a road trip to LA in a week or two and I'd love a chance to run my car (even for just a slow parade lap) on one of my favorite tracks...

Without any track experience, do you think I'd be able to get a lap or two?

You need to sign up for a track day or race day. Usually anywhere from $90 to $200 bucks. You'll also need at least SA2000 or newer helmet and need to get your car tech'd before they clear you for the track. SpeedTrialUSA organizes some races on Laguna Seca.

NASA will have another day at Laguna-Seca March 21st.

https://www.nasaproracing.com/nasa_e.../?event_id=472

"HPDE Groups 2, 3, and 4 drivers are invited. There will be no in car instruction available at this event"

So Im not sure how you / they would feel about starting your first time in Group 2... but theres that possibility. It would cost you about $350 for 7 twenty min sessions.

All things considered, the handling mods are relatively minimal and off-the-shelf items that everyone has access to. Who said cars with beam suspensions automatically handled like garbage?

Any plans to bend the rear beam to zero?

Wow, Laguna Seca's site has changed. Last year, they allowed people to drive their own cars there, as long as u pay the fee and pass inspections. It was like a lunch-time run when there wasn't anything else on the schedule. Odd. I'll try to find current info and post.

Nice, corkscrew action... how's it feel to get waved by by an elise?

Or, more humorously.... I wonder how the Elise felt waving a Maxima by. Are you ever going to consider a VQ35 swap?

I don't think NASA will let a no experience with auto-x or track day noob run in group 2. At least, it wasn't even an option when NASA was still active up this way.......
