DIY Tail light Question

I dont have a heat a gun. Can I open my taillights by putting them in the oven?

And i bought the white lens from home depot that you replace the orange piece in the taillights with....Does anyone know what size the white lens has to be cut to..in order to fit where the orange piece is in the taillights? And what do you recommend using to cut the lens? I have access to all sorts of cutting machines at school.

The reason I ask is because Iam going to take the lens to school and cut them, then bring them home and put everything together.

Thanks

If you don't want to do it yourself and bake your tailights like you're planning on doing. www.cattmanperformance.com Sells them for 199. it's alot nicer. -Way cleaner than any DIY ones.

I did read the FAQs and the stickies, thats how I found out what I had to buy and how to do everything. But in the how to's they use a heat gun to open the tail lights and i was wondering if you can put them in the oven and open them up.

I also wanted to know how big the Acrylic Lens has to be cut, because I was planning on cutting it at my school and bring it home. The lenth of how big the Acrylic lens is to be cut is not found in the stickies or how to's....so thanks for your help..but i've already did that.

So if anyone else can let me know if i can open my taillights by putting them in the oven...and wut size the acrylic lens has to be cut to.

Thanks

You wont crack it with a heat gun if you are careful. Have fun. Ive opened up my side clearance lights through means of an oven so its possible to do with an oven. Just dont forget they are in there or you wont have anymore rear lights.

i did mine in the oven, 175(non digital oven so it could go that low, my new one i think only goes to 225) for 15 minutes. put one, maybe 2 at a time, make sure the screws are out first. it takes all of 5 minutes to cut the clear stuff. use the back side of an exacto knife or buy a plexiglass scriber and cut it on the smooth side. just use the amber piece as a guide. you're going to need to trim it as you go along, so cutting the pieces at school and bringing it home isnt the best way to go. make sure you do the inners too so they match. i did mine in about an hour start to finish.

exactly what he said. It seems like a large endeavor until you actually do it. It's really easy and looks great.

YES! I don't see many people doing this but they will match PERFECTLY because you are putting the same type of material in both. Also, a heat gun isn't neccessary.... I did mine with a regular hair dryer. It works but its just a little slower. Ok a LOT slower but it still does the same job.

Very simple. I don't think there's any trick to it, compared to the outter ones due to one of the corners having to come out a certain way.

Even if you buy them, they won't match 100% but can get close. If you clear them out yourself, they'll match for sure. But then again, it's up to your own personal decision.

Once you get the lenses off, cut some paper to fit the exact shape and size of the piece you need. Take it with you to school and use as a template.

I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel for my brother's 99 but I suppose a band saw would be much easier if you have access to one.

That seems like the perfect thing to do. Thanks
