What kind of exhaust to get?

One of the anchors which holds the exhaust pipe is broken and the bottom of the pipe is been hitting something. I had tied it up before but I notice the change in sound and know for fact that i have hole in it. What should i change the exhaust with? I dont want anything fancy since my wife drives the car now. Should I change the exhaust or just the pipe after the cat? its a 95 GLE with 93k miles. Please help..thanks

heres a site with all sorts of options.

If you have your exhaust falling apart (from rust most likely), it probably would be a good idea to replace at least from (including) cat all the way back.

My exhaust is also falling apart. I've read countless exhaust threads and i'm looking to use an aftermarket y-pipe, cat and b-pipe, but use a stock muffler or possibly a dynomax. I'm looking for the quietest setup possible (as close to stock as possible) within $600. What are my options?

It's all about the B-pipe resonator. If you have a good one or the stock one a lot of after market mufflers are going to be almost as quiet as stock. If you don't have a resonator it will be much louder.

the greddy sp2 doesn't include the Y-pipe and the cat does it?

not really. i have a 2000 resonator with a flowmaster deltaflow 40 series muffler and warpspeed y pipe and it is way louder than stock. if you have a aftermarket y pipe, any muffler other than stock is going to be loud.

BTW, Flowmaster DeltaFlow 40 on a maxima with warpspeed 2.5 y sounds AWESOME

for 600 just get budget y-pipe and b-pipe with the resonator and be done with it.

If you want a catback system get the sp2 and that should leave some money for the y-pipe.

got me beat on sound, my opinion,

ebay 4" exhaust-maybe a greddy if you can find it $40-60 with shipping
y-pipe- $230 with test pipe
mineke- custom exhaust 2.25 or 2.5 maybe $250-320

total- approx. $600

sound- not the quietest, but not the loudess,
recommendation- shop around

that sounds good then. But what about the full 2.5 system from warpspeed? That includes the y-pipe, cat, a resonated b-pipe and a "Q" quiet muffer. Is that any decent?

i got my custom pipe loacally (nashville, tn) from the cat to the muffler and it only cost me $50. add in the magnaflow race series muffler ($180), ebay headers ($300) and my exhaust sounds great at $500. rather spend more on the muffler than the custom piping IMO.

Hey jltibbs, I think I have seen your car before. I live down in Smyrna and I think I saw it at an Advance AutoParts. But it had G35 18's on it though. So maybe it wasn't you.
