Lowering/Rims Question

My friend and I are having an argument about the 1997 Maxima and lowering it.
Would lowering the car 1.5" (Eibach) with the Stock SE 16" 5-star alloys and 55 series tires look like sh**???
He seems to think it would totally look bad because the 16" rims aren't big enough.
I think that lowering it only 1.5" will not make it look bad at all.
If we lowered it 3 inches or more, then definately new rims would be in order.
I happen to like the stock rims.
Does anyone have a picture of a Max lowered on stock rims??
A white Max preferrably, but anything will work.
Opinions?" Thoughts?
Thanks,
IanS

The Truth.
Would it look bad? NO WAY. The Maxima SE stock rims look awesome, and they would look nice with a smaller wheelwell, because its obviously huge. Lowering it would shorten the top wheelwell clearance, shorten the sides, and make more of the wheel covered. If I had an SE with SE rims, I probably wouldn't even have bought my Racing Harts. I'm looking at a set of Weapon-R coilovers to lower my car 3". and I think it'll look just the same as with 16". Just trying to help.

That's pretty much what I think.
But my friend (he owns an I30 with 17's), says that the tire is too big and the rim, at 16", is too small.
He seems to think that while it will lower the space on the top of the tires, it will elongate the spaces at the sides of the wheelwell.
Anyone else have thoughts?
