How long should a stock 4th gen last?

I have heard of users getting up to 350.000 but not sure if it was miles or kilometers. If you mention any thing like that please state miles or KM.

From having my 97 now for 4 months i can honestly say the engine will outlast anything else on the rest of the car.

So the question is: Keeping things stock, with REGULAR maintenance (not like hmm im bored today lets change the plugs or air filter or fuel filter, or some other thing just because...) how many MILES or KILOMETERS can a max last ? (until its either too expensive to repair it or the seats have rusted through the bottom of the car and u have to use your Flinstones feet to stop the car)

Alright. Ill put it simple and avoid the long details.

My 98 maxima se 5MT has 298,000KMS. And i will 100% garuntee none of those KMS have been easy, i drive the car VERY hard, bring it to 6K + every day. Im 18 so its normal for me. I race the car, auto x and drag. The car gets maintened very well though.

With the age of the engine, i chose not to go with synthetic, instead i change the oil every 3000KMS. I work at nissan so parts and oil is free.

The only major problem is the transmission. Differential carrier bearing to be exact. It failed causing my seal to stretch and all the fluid leak out slowly. The leak got to a point where i park the car for 3 hours and the size of the gear oil spill would be about 1ft in diameter and thick. It got a little low and kaboom tranny went, the car at the time was my DD and i needed to get to and from school so i just drove it as is.

Other then that nothing major has gone wrong, the engine still runs good. Ran a 14.90@92 bone stock in the summer. And with a best of 14.4X@95 with i/y.

Check out my cardomain. I personally think the car looks very good considering the mileage, and its driven throughout the whole year, through 1ft of snow or desert conditions. Considering the amount of driving i do too. People agree when i tell them how many kms the car has they are in disbelief.

What! Useful life for what? The whole car? Engine? Tranny? That's a horrible way to advertise a car.

That's probably for drivers who get new cars when their ashtray is full.

Hard to believe.

it depends on the owner, a car can last forever. engine blows, or goes, buy another, same as any other part. vq series engines are very strong. also as they get older keep an eye out for rust.

I was reading about emissions and cat converters are supposed to last the life of the car. Cali CARB says minimum 150k miles. I'm waaaay overdue for a newer car.

There was a 4th Gen thread about a month or so ago. The owner had over 385,000 miles on the car, although I think he was only a recent buyer.

About 2 years ago, I read about a European-equivalent of a Maxima with over 1 million kilometres on the clock. It was used as a taxi in Norway.

If routine maintenance is done and the oil is changed regularly, 300,000 miles should be a slam dunk.

Someone posted above had 359k miles on his/her '95. Just take good care of your max; you should expect it to last for a long time.
