while more expensive the cattman headers are worth the driving experience. really transforms the car. but from a performance standpoint a good ypipe is a big bonus. i just couldnt ever get my maxima to sound worth a crap with a y pipe

got headers with ypipe, installed. i couldnt afford cattman. went with jdm motors off of ebay. you can get cattman from ebay sometimes, but i would be a little weary. mine work and sound great. BTW, had a guy ask me today how i got a v6 to sound like a v8.

headers are mainly for sound. if your trying to squeeze every drop of power out of your motor, then headers is great also but they dont offer that much of a power gain.

i only have the y-pipe in for now, most mechanics says it looks like a really tight fit and maybe wont work, but JLtibbs has the same headers installed, so i know it'll fit perfect

There is a proven 20 fwhp gain with the headers. 20 proven by 2 or more people. You of all people should know this.

i'm a DIY guy....cause a shop is prob just too expensive for me..but sometimes i wish i don't know how to work on a car n be able to afford to pay someone to do the job. Since you were asking, i can call myself a decent mechanic......n i was thinking about headers before...did them before..but all on 4 cyl....6 cyl...never tried, heard the back header was PITA.......read through forums of how to install, doesn't seem worth it for me...didn't have the right tools....hence didn't do it.....so i would read up some more...tons of information on this site of how to install it n what the easiest way is..........so many ppl are going to flame you because there are so many threads...i was thinking about to do the same..but then decided to be nice......so have fun digging!!!!

believe me doing a 4cyl is nothing close to the maxima headers, my best friend did his own 97 mirage headers and he's not even close to bieng a mechanic, i've heard from liscened professional that it's one of the most challenging thing to do. and the only reason i didnt put them in, is because im being lazy on going to the shop, i was gonna get mines professionally done anyways, like i do with 98% of my mods

The front header is not hard to install. If you are planning on replacing the coolant it makes it much easier since you can remove the radiator to allow extra room to work. But the rear is PITA. You may have to pull the UIM, tilt the engine, or even remove the cross member to get the rear on.

Buy if your a patient person its possible. Its really about getting the room to take off or put on the headers.

A good tip is when you trying to remove the headers. Tighten the heat shield to break the bolt instead of loosening them. This will allow the heat shield to come off fairly easy.

That's cool man. Alot of people spend the money b/c it's just a hastle. I'm going to do the front for now and than install the rear when I pull the engine out. I know it makes no sense but I need to change the AC condensor anyways.

the whole "20 WHP gain" is a joke IMO. i have only gained 18 WHP w/ intake hearders AND exhaust. BTW the headers are a tight fit. DIY FTMFW!!!!!!

Was that on a 4th or 5th gen or a 99 FEd. We all know that the 99 Fed and the 5th gen have the precats in the headers so a 20 hp gain is expected.
