0503 - Front right heated 02 sensor Q's

just checked the ECM, codes are as follows:
0903 - EVAP Canister VCV
0304 - Knock Sensor
0707 - Rear heated 02 sensor
0503 - Front right heated 02 sensor

My plan of attact(may not be correct) is to do the FR 02 sensor first, from my understanding that sensor malfuntioning will cause the rear 02 to throw a code, so i should replace the front right one first??

Also, should the KS be replaced regardless? I tried to check it as per the FAQ's but could not get a reading, the write up is very vague on testing and I cannot find any better explainations, does the car need to be running, car on, etc.

The other thing is WHERE is the Front Right 02 sensor? I am having no luck searching.

Thanks,
Matt

hey matt, i am having the same problems as you man, i was firswt showing 0707 and 0304, so i replaced the rear o2, 160$ later i went on a car trip and threw my 2 front o2 sensors. so i reset the ecu and i am waiting to see whats it throws this time.

your knock sensors are probly ok, they just throw a code when your o2's are out of wack. i would change your front o2 and check the evap canister then reset the ecu and see what it says 200miles down the road. your rear o2 and knock might be ok.

both front o2's are on your y pipe and the conections are right up at the front of the car near the rad.
good luck homie

The front right o2 sensor is located on the Y pipe near the passenger side wheelwell/firewall.

o2 sensors with the oem connector are around $65 USD at www.oxygensensors.com

Not too sure about a Canadian source though.

thanks I'll look for the sensor and check it out, thanks for the link.
and 'Graem': from what I know the KS is a ghost code, only appeared because of the sensors, repairing the sensor(s) doesnt fix the KS.

i recently just had 0304 Knock sensor and 0901 Front Right Htd 02 sensor heater

i replaced the Knock sensor about a week ago and i just did the O2 sensor about an hour ago ! its easy to do,

got my parts from

http://www.autopartsonlinecanada.com/

the sensor if you jack the car up from the passenger side( if its the same sensor as mine. slide under and its very easy to get at you just need a 7/16 Wrench. took me maybe 5 minutes to change it. its a white wire that comes up above ur engine.

knock sensor its nice and cheap from that site!! same with sensors and free shipping in canada if u spend more then 75

well i'll change the KS and front right 02 for now, then see what happens, I cant afford to do them all at once, or even for the next couple weeks, thats why i want to know what has to be done or what should be done first, if I had the money I'd do everything, including the EVAP, but i dont have any $ so the issues need to be prioritized, thats where I need help I dont know what is most important to do first, any help?????????????

Usually people recommend replacing the front O2 sensor first.
The KS will usually be triggered by the faulty O2.
The only thing the rear O2 sensor does is tell the ECU if your cat converter is bad, so change that last.
I've got no clue about the EVAP code though.

I WOULD DO THE KNOCK SENSOR FIRST
1) becouse bad or lazy o2 sensors read out of perimeters (lean). this makes the computor richen up engine to try to adjust out "lean" condition. a rich running engine usally doesnt ping, therefore not "overparimetering" the k.s. and setting it's code
2) its easier and (cheaper?)
3) i said so

off hand i think evap code can be set if the system leaks vacuum. check your gas cap for leaking. most smog shops will be decent enough to check it free if you bring it in.

your reason 1 just proves why you shouldnt do KS first if thats true. youre basically saying that the 02S's are bad causing a KS code and to do the KS before the O2S. doesnt make sense in my head....and why is it lean? a bad O2 can read rich too.....

i just had an evap code for the VCV. check all the evap hoses for cracks/holes or see if theyre clogged with charcoal. holes may be hard to find since the evap monitors are supposed to detect up to a .040" hole/leak. but if niether of those are the case, replace the VCV and you should be golden (vcv cost me about $120 USD and took less than 5 mins with only a philips head screw driver to replace)

wikid thanks boys that at least sets me on the right direction, EVAP code has been plagueing (sp?) me for a while, I need to get it into my shop at work and put it over the pit and hunt, just havent been ambitious enough to do it lol. oh one last Q, the VCV is under the hood right? where abouts? I already changed the VCVBV I think it is, white (spider valve) with 4 hose nipples, its at the evap box behind the L/Rear tire

so the vcv is the actual 'solonoid' valve, not the spider valve, its the one that the plug attatches to directly right?

you gotta get it at the dealer. no other place carries it...ive looked everyplace. its not too bad, $120USD so probably around $140-150 canadian (roughly). i called a couple different dealers seeing if the price varied from dealer to dealer, and it did. the highest i was quoted was $150 and lowest was $120. so ide suggest calling a couple different dealers if you wanna save a little cash.
