Line-In to the Bose Head Unit?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm looking for a way to directly connect my iPod to the Bose stero in my '98.

Those FM transmitters kinda suck and the cassette is ok, but I'm wondering if there's a hookup somewhere on the back of the unit or something that I could directly run a cable to.

Thought I'd ask before I pull it out to check.

I took a chance last week and installed a USAspec PA11-NIS into my '98 SE even though it says for '99 and up -- and it works fine. I hooked the AUX inputs to my XM receiver and I drilled a hole into the storage tray below the radio where I ran the cable into for the IPOD. Took it one step further by tapping into the lighter wires to add a 12V plug behind the dash for the XM receiver and used cables with 90 degree plugs, so no wires are visible unless I pull out the IPOD. I'd post a pic, but it appears I don't have enough posts yet.

The only issue I've encountered so far is that the HU will sometimes display NO CD and then shutdown when switching between AUX and IPOD, but I simply power it back on and all is good. As long as I'm not switching between inputs, the connection always works and the IPOD charges. Sound quality is far superior to the tape adapter and FM transmitter, and I'm pleased I didn't have to drop another 100 bones for a 99 HU.

Haha well there is no reason for dropping $100 on a 99 hu anyways. People sell them for cheaper on here all the time. Anyway, I've heard that the unit you installed and the AUX mod do not sound all that great. I've been told that the sound is pretty low and can't be heard to well. How is the quality you have?

I should clarify that I'm using the AUX input on the USAspec adapter, not the AUX mod that some people add. The USAspec PA11-NIS has two connections -- an IPOD adapter and red/white RCA connections for AUX -- that's the AUX I'm using.

The AUX volume is good and the sound playing XM is clear. It's just as good as the built-in XM in my wife's Acura and I get the bonus of the crystal clear IPOD connection.

$100 = round number. Immaterial now cause the adapter works with my 98 HU.
