wow, havent seen one of these threads in a while. k ive finally decided to clear my tails and i was talking to my cousin, who is going to help me, and suggested this:

instead using a hairdryer, heatgun, knife, etc. to cut through the rubber/glue, how bout using a soldering iron? it'll go straight through the rubber you need to cut, right?

tell me what you think, but this seems easiest so far.

the reason to use the heatgun is to melt the glue (just the glue) holding the 2 parts together. using the soldering iron will melt the 2 parts together instead of just melting the glue. also it will warp the plastic badly and will STINK verrry bad

I tried to clear my tails before but I couldnt get the 2 parts to come apart because I tried it during winter and I guess it was too cold to heat the glue so I put them back on. If anyone can help me clear them that lives in central CA then mail me please.

Using a soldering iron like that sounds like a bad idea for the reasons that Nismo mentioned. Use a heat gun.

i just cleared out mine this morning, easiest mod ever!!! the hardest part was deciding what color bulbs to put in the side and blinkers.. just follow directions and heat evenly.. very easy mod.. everyone makes it sound hard.

Sadly it took me like 6 hours to do mine the first time. Just take your time heating the tail light. You have to use force to separate them, but don't pull so hard that you think it will break the light. Using a knife to pry might work too. Be very careful on the corners, because they tend to snap easily.

Im done!!!

omg, i thought this would be difficult task.. it was a so simple... for anyone who hasnt done this, do it!

BrianV, you might want to add this too(reword how you want to). when taking out the whole light assembly, push the outer two screws of the light outwards and away at the same time and take the outer half of the light assembly out first. once thats out, just pull the other half of the light assembly out then.

i read that many people had much difficulty pulling the light fixture out, some using hammers, some kicking it out. but when i played around with it, i figured how to take it out easily (stated above).

and as BrianV said, you will pull the lense apart with FORCE, i was afraid to pull it apart hard, but you have to. the first light assembly took me about 30 mins to do while the second light assembly took me about 15 mins. do it if you havent! thanks everyone for the help!

btw, BrianV... what's next? i already did you intake mod and your clear tails mod, what's next?

its not really a clear reflector, what most of us have used is flourescent light covers found at most hardware stores. you cant really use the orange piece as a template but you just cut a small strip out and keep trimming till it fits. not difficult at all.

bought a heat gun and flourescent light cover today at home depot. heat gun($30) and light cover was $13. they didn't have the square type (less $) but the one i got seemed more rugged/harder than the others. i'll try to do this mod next weekend.

mine kept on cracking too and you can even see some cracks in it still, if you look up close. what i did was heat it up like you did, i heat mine hot enough where i had to wear gloves to hold it, and then cut it slowly. then after i cut it, i set the heat gun to high and waived it around the edges to smooth it out. good luck, o yeah, use the sharpest scissors you have. i had to use my super kitchen scissors

Ming/MAC told me the way he did it which sounds like it would work great:

heat up a putty knife (those flatbladed things for smoothing paint or putty or whatever) on the stove (put it right on the burner), then once that is pretty hot, just use it to cut the plastic and it will go right through it and makes straight edges

hope that works for you; I've obviously never tried myself since I have a 93

my flourescent light cover cut out bent to the light housing without a problem. mine fits nice and snug so i didnt have to use glue, im sure yours will too. just take it all apart and cut it out, then stick it in curving with the housing, it should hold fine, good luck

o yeah, you can use the heat gun and feat the scissors up real hot or use ur stove/grill to heat it upi nice and hot. it should slice right through it.
