Buying: 04 Maxima or 03 G35 Sedan?

Hey peps! I'm looking to upgrade from my 96 Max. The car runs fine, I just feel it's time for a upgrade. I'm looking to spend about 16k. I've looked online and seen 04 Maxima's and 03 G35 sedans for this amout.
Now- Which would you get?
I know the 04 maxima have a few problems(sun roof, handling, ect.) from what i've read, but they have a few more horses that the G35. The G35 seems like the a solid car, there nice cars, i'd like to own one, but some thing about the styling of the G35 sedan seems a bit off.

Anyways. Any input/suggestions would hepful!

Thanks!

No contest--G35. RWD, being able to say you drive an Infiniti, and WAY more fun to drive. Being several years old, the G has been outclassed, but Nissan put the same passion into those original G's that they did into the original Z.

OP: Depending on your needs, I would personally look at the G coupes which may fall into that price range in a year or two. If that won't work, and the Max and G are your only choices, go with the G. Although both were early years of their gen, they were both overall very successful and reliable cars. The G is often refered to being a refined Maxima and in many cases, it is. The interior is much nicer; feels more solid. Exterior also looks better. 6th gen Maximas have taken a while to grow on me and finally have, but I feel they need a few visual mods to get a decent look. Being in Cali, RWD shouldn't be a problem and that should be the deal breaker. Get the G.

Neither, both suck. If I had 16k to spend Id get either a WRX or preferably and S4. But, if you are absolutely adamant about getting one of those two, Id say the G, even tho those older sedans were butt ugly (though they havent improved much), at least its RWD and has better handling.

def the G.....of course this is my personal opinion, but I just do not like the 6th gen maxima at all. No amount of cosmetic mods could dress it up to my liking, it just looks too awkward. The G, on the other hand, looks beautiful....nice, proportioned lines, nice interior (the pop-up GPS is sick, IMO) and yeah, RWD. Plus, add on the aero kit and some nice 18s or 19s, and the car just looks DAMN good...much better than a 6th genner with the same mods. You may have seen this already, but here's a link to the G that is making me want to get one, though my first love is a BMW 330i Performance package:

GL with your decision.

Go for the G. They both have the VQ35 and the G is on a RWD platform...=D. The G is wayy nicer inside and is a nicer looking car in my opinion. If you can save a few more $$ and go for a G coupe. If you do end up getting a sedan which isnt bad at all, try and get a 6 speed (i think they made em). Good luck tho. Keep us posted.

I was more proud to say that I drove an Infiniti over when I had a Maxima. What are you trying to say? Do you hate me?

I was going to just delete your post, but I want to see how you dig your way out of this...

I'm not a fan of the G sedan, If i were to get a G it would be the coupe. Still I would take the G over the Maxima, from my experiences the G is a little more comfortable, less problems, much better customer service if you have to bring it in, and. . . . you can still put a TT kit on it should you feel the desire

Thank you for the opportunity. My point, and obviously you missed it, is that when people buy the "nicer" brands, i.e. Benz BMW Infiniti etc, just to say they own those brands, ticks me off. Sure, the G35 is a decent car... but should the classy nameplate sway you into buying the car? Maybe. Why do rich little kids want BMWs from their parents when they get their licenses? For the namesake. The general population who don't give a damn about performance or any of the other qualities we look for in a car will buy them JUST BECAUSE of the brand name. And I hate that.

THAT was my point.

Valid point. Maybe it was not quite clear from your initial post, but you make sense.

Carry on, carry on...

Thanks for all the imput. I WOULD rather get a G35 coupe, as you know the coupes go for no less than 20-21K. In the long run i SHOULD save a bit more and get the coupe, I'll just wait and see how my 96 MAX holds up as I'm pushing 188,000mi. I'll keep you guys posted!

Thanks Agiain!

Doesn't sound like much of a question here. Should I get the BMW, or the Civic for a tiny bit less?

From all these responses I better erase the 6th gen as a choice for my next car ?
Are all G's RWD? I'm looking on Auto Trader and Cars.com and I see only FWD. Is it availablie in both platforms or are these sellers full o' Sh*t? Also living in the northeast is RWD better than front with all the snow?

alot of people seem to think the G is FWD, I dont know why, they just do. I got into what seemed like and hour argument with one guy over it. Anyway, I would buy the G35 sedan ONLY if I had to choose between those two cars, the g35 coupe is a must have car for me when I get older though that car is FINE AS HELL

FWD is better than RWD in the snow. Just think about it...would you rather be pulled or pushed? FWD will pull you out of things much easier and prevents you from going sideways in bad weather.

On the G35 coupe. I would love to own one someday as well.

4 door G35 IMO is not a G35, its a family sedan similar to the maxima.
I love the max.
a 4 door G35 is just wrong.
+1 to the FWD being better in snow, but I'd rather have a RWD for every other occasion

That is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. You act like the G35 has some legacy and this 4door one messed it all up.

G35 sedan no questions asked. After driving both, id take the G. Visually is a preference, i think it looks nicer, you cant deny that RWD is better for performance and handling. No torque steer, wheel hop/axle tramp is still there though. About traction though, a RWD with a good set of snow tires can perform about the same as a FWD in the winter..assuming you have some winter experience. Interior of the G35 is much nicer, although im not a big fan of the dash on the 03-04 G i still perfer it better then the individual pods of the maxima. The 05+ G's dash is much nicer. Also the aftermarket for the G35 is much bigger, because almost every part that works on the G35C will work on the G35S.
