What was the reason you bought your first maxima?

Well, i dont think (at least by giving it a quick look) that a thread like this was open, i just wanted to know why people just bought it, since not so many people will think this is a sports car to race, nor a "chick magnet "

Ill go first, well this is my first car at all, since i bought it almost myself (50% 50% me and my mom) well she wanted me to get a SUV wich i dont like, i was looking for an "eclipse" since i like those cars or something of that category "sporty", well i was from dealership to dealership and i saw this car at $3,950 that was 50$ less than my limit and i liked it. I din't knew the maxima "existed" never saw it in the street or nothing. so thats how i bought my maxima (and why), i did got it for $2,950 because there where some problems with it, leaking sunroof, no A/C.... and no front passenger door *Lol just kiding. well thats how i got it and im in love with the maxima now

Again, the purpose of this thread is to know the .org people better since i am "new".

BTW, i bought it at a Toyota/Scion dealership

I got mine for these reasons:
1) Known history and cheap price (bought it from my sister for 5k couple years ago)
2) Vq30 reliability and smoothness
3) nice upgrade path - (bolt ons, 00vi, then 3.5 and of course WR) - keeps me interested for years to come
4) plenty of room for the fam

well i first bought mine when I was almost 18 my parents gave me $5800 Graduation present, which i planned on using to buy my first car. I had no clue what i wanted or what I liked. One of my friends had mentioned it while i was looking around for a car, so i thought i'd check it out. 1st max i found was a black 97 se auto... needed new front breaks and front end looked pitted (rock chips painted over) they wanted $17,000 had 80,000 KM on it . so i put it on hold for the weekend while i looked around some more. no luck finding anything else tho. But my dad told me not to get the black one... so i didn't 2 days went by and he called every dealership in the city looking for another one because he knew how much i wanted one now ( twas love at first sight!!) finaly he found one 98 Pearl White GLE 60,000 km auto.. $21,000 so my dad paid my down payment with his visa over the phone (my grad present) and i went and picked it up!! ever since then I LOVE IT, all my friends really like it too !!

mine came from a nissan dealership btw

Had good feedback from other maxima owners. A close family friend had done 500, 000 KMS on his 1994 until he realised it had its day. I thought that was pretty amazing. Mine is a late 1997 mod and done 190,000 to date. Gave it a nice waxing over the weekend and looks like the beauty I bought three years ago at an auto auction. Never regretted.

I knew it wasn't very expensive, had decent power, and is reliable. I also wanted to keep having a 4 door car.

Lets just say when you see a sick a$$ CLEAN black 99 se maxima lowered on a nice set of rims tinted and full exhaust scream past you while your walking on a side walk lets just say it stays firmly in your mind that, that was one quick(i thought at the time), sick as **** looking Maxima. All thanks to a old local orger with the username FoSho (or somthing along those lines) which was also my friends Brother.

I remember always liking the maxima 3rd gen, but when the 4th gen came out(i was only 13) and i loved it...tried to get my parents to buy one, but no luck. So when i started working for good cash, i knew i can afford one and went shopping one day out of the blue. Went to a mitsubishi dealer(found it on the newspaper) and saw this blk on blk 95 SE auto...i mean i fell in love with it....it still had a new car smell and they told me they would fix misc things on it. Bought it for 10,000$ back in 2002...evrything was amazing with it, i had it for 3 yrs and then picked up a 99 blk on blk SE 5spd...this one i picked up for cheap, cause it needed work...once i get pictures, i'll post em up....never will i choose another car....fast, comfortable and looked really good...all i needed

a few reasons:
1. I totaled my camry
2. Insurance would be ridiculous on anything sportier due to the wreck
3. It's a Nissan
4. Black on Black leather, yummy
5. VQ30
6. It was affordable

I got my Maxima Because my friend and Aunt had one and i like them ever since and i soon found out that Nissan had alot of history behind them and plus maxima's are just great all around cars. I originally wanted a 4th generation maxima for my first car but my parents were nice enough to buy me a 5.5 Generation which was a unexpected Birthday Present.

Well i bought mine due to my family. My dad had a 96 GLE, and now has a 2k2 SE, my Uncle has a 2001 se, my cousin has a 97 se, my mom has a 2003 frontier, and my grandparents have a 2006 3.5 altima. So after my first car ('98 subaru legacy gt, total disaster) I found my 99 back in late 04 and bought it for $5200 and havent looked back since.

I took my dad's 97 SE after he got his new acura TSX. Needless to say it's been fun owning a faster car than his new high 20k sports car.

I have always liked the looks of the Maxima, and I never had a real desire to own one until I started looking at cars about 2 years ago. The maxima was sporty, had 4 doors, 190 HP V6, great reliability, and were in my price range.

When my parents told me that I could buy a car in September, I started looking everywhere and it wasn't until mid January that I found my 99 blk on blk leather SE 5spd loaded. Not one option missing from the factory...and it only had 107K miles. I bought it within 15 minutes after giving it a quick look and test driving it. $5500 for a car at a dealership that is worth $8500 seemed like a good deal to me.

I paid 100% for the car, and my parents make me pay for gas, insurance, mods, and all maintiance for the car. They filled up my first tank of gas, and that is all they have done. I just turned 17 and it is a great first car. I baby it, probably because I paid a big chunk of money for it, but I really like it.

I first had a Ford taurus because i needed a car ASAP to go to work with, but my bestfriend kept on telling he'll have the best maxima and the fastest, thats when my competitive side came out so i made him a bet that ill get the same car thats faster and looks better so i did a lil research on maxima's and the price was excellent for what you get (V6, Roominess, Great looks), best in class to me so i bought it and never looked back since, even though i had tranny problems

Well, my first car was a 92 Mazda Protege my parents gave it to me since it was my moms (bought it new) and she had just bought a new car (POS Cadillac which we sold and go a V6 camry). I loved the car so much, it was loaded sunroof, power everything, but I had put so many miles on it and the tranny was starting to die. My aunt had a 98 GLE at the time and I loved that car, I used to wash it just so I would be able to drive it (now I do that with here 06 3.5 hehe). Well one day she called and said that there was a car like hers for sale on the corner of her street. Well I told my parents and they went with me to look at it, it was a 96 that had 62k. It had been in an accident bags blew and everything (just found that out 2 weeks ago) but still had a clear title (not sure how that works), but everything was fixed and she needed just needed new shocks. A starter, battery, brakes, and a radiator and thats where I am today at 93k and about to give her a tune up this weekend!

I first laid my eyes on a maxima when a new friend of mine asked his dad to give me a ride, it was a 96 blk on blk leather sunroof, i fell in love, since i could not afford a car i waited and waiter until i saved enough money to buy what i wanted. yeah i could drive my parents cars but i wanted my own.

Then i found what i have now a 97 ( i love the updated look of 97-99.5 it really is that much better) heated seats and mirrors, sunroof, ABS, but no leather, got a good deal and went for it, got tired of looking around, now im very happy with her, lets see how that sunroof makes me feel this coming summer !!!!!!

When I was like 11 (in 1996) I went with my brother in law for a test drive of the Maxima. I fell in love that day.

When I was in high school my dad bought a new Camry and gave me his van. I used that for a few months until it died. He told me for my grad present he'd get me whatever car I wanted for around 5G.

Thats when I got my 96 auto GXE with S&C package. It was really nice and was great having that car through half of senior year and couple years of college but I rushed into it cause I had no other car. I really wanted an SE black on black.

I quickly got tired of auto but still wanted an A32. So I found me a nice I30t black on black. I LOVE IT!!

I got out of basic training right after high school for the army national guard in 2001 and was just looking around going from dealership to dealership. I knew that I wanted a sport sedan. First Nissan dealership I was at sat a 98 black se but the price was steep at 18k, I looked in the next row over there was a 97 gxe in blue(which is pretty rare, I've yet to see another like it) I looked at every other dealership on that street but knew I was going to come back for the max after the first test drive. I came back and bought it and also ended up getting a job there at the same time.

After working there about 6 months, a 96 deep evergreen 5 speed got traded in . I immediately ran over to my boss and said I wanna trade mine in for the 5 speed. A week later it was mine . Couple months later the tranny took a dump on me and I got it completely rebuilt at the dealership for $800 It's a night and day difference between the auto and manual

couldnt find a 240sx s13to be specific. I was at the nissan dealership and bought a 1996 camaray automatic. Had it for two days, when it was leaking and starting to cause major problems. We took it back and demanded we got something else. The day before someone traded in their Max, I saw it dirty but Black, on Black and 5spd. . . after a test drive, it was a rap!

I liked the 3rd gen Max's but when the 4th gen came out I was in love. Back in 94 when my father was looking for a new car that had more traditional (he didn't like the newer european styling many cars had) lines, I recommended the Maxima. He drove one and really liked the V6 power, bought a fully loaded GXE with leather at a great price since the 95's were coming out. I purchased it from him about 6 years later when my wife needed a better car. But I always really liked the 4th gen styling. So, after my divorce I was able to keep it. But after spending 2k for a transmission rebuild at 152,000 miles I figured other stuff may start going wrong so I started looking for a good used Maxima. I was leaning toward a 5th gen for the 3.5 but I still always loved the 4th gen style and VQ smoothness. But was having a hard time finding one with low miles.

Just so happened that within a few months a dealer I drove by every day to and from work had this beautiful Icelandic Pearl 99 SE Limited sitting out front. So I stopped in for a look, it had 34.6k miles and was a local one owner trade in (which I check out). I thought "holy crap, only 34.6k on a 99 in Jan. 05??". They wanted $14,995 for it tho, which I thought was way too high. But then I drove it and fell in love (surprise, surprise). After seeing the window sticker stuck in the owner's manual at $30,219 I decided to buy it. I offered 12,500 and bought if for 12,750. I knew it was a high retail price but the way I looked at it was I was getting a $30k car with 34.6k miles at just under 13k.

She has just under 55k miles now and I still love her.

Wow..this is goin way back to 1997..
- My first car was a 4cyl Jeep Cherokee money pit..
- Didn't want another American made car
- Test drove a few Honda accords and wasn't impressed with the power or tranny
- Didn't like the looks of any of the Toyota offerings at the time
- Edmunds.com had really good ratings for the Nissan Maxima
- Wanted a v6 w 4 doors as I hate crawling into the back of a two door and wouldn't want to make anyone else do it either.
- Got my 95 GXE just off-lease with 29k miles for $16k (not bad for 10 years ago)

I bought my max because of the VQ and the 5 speed. I drove one with an auto tranny, but the 5 speed closed the deal for me.
Good room in the seats for me and four doors. I had a Toyota Camry before this and that was just booring!!

Wanted something larger than my previous civic, had to be japanese, had to be 5spd, had to be faster than my civic was, had to have decent styling.

This had me looking at 4th gens and 93+ honda prelude VTECs. Damn glad I ended up with a 4th gen first...

I was originally looking for a buick regal gs, which is a pretty fast 4-door, but at the time gas prices were ridiculous so 18 mpg city was out of question and it required premium, not that the max doesn't but boost + 87 = detonation.

-Compared to similar cars in its class, accord v6/camry v6, it was lighter, cheaper, and got better mileage.
-Timing chain vs timing Belt.
-y-pipe offers tremendous gains for the money

My first Maxima was a 1997 Concord Mist SE 5-spd. Bought it for the styling, 5-spd transmission, and torquey motor. Those are the three things that really sold me on this particular make. To this day those three reasons still put a smile on my face.
Traded it with 117,000 mi back in 2002 for my current vehicle, which is a 1999 SE 5-spd. At the time the 99 had only 23K on it and I couldn't pass it down. It currently has 61,000 mi. and has been good to me.

My first car was a 1986 Honda Prelude. My brother owned this car before me. About 5-1/2 years ago I tooks his keys and took the car for a spin around the block and fell in love. So within 6 months I convinced him to sell it to me and I've been happy ever since.
