do you have an aftermarket y-pipe? shot in the dark but could be a mild bees in the can sound since it's only apparent low-speed/level acceleration.

nope i have the stock Y pipe, btw i just realized that at startup (cold) the car makes this awful noise for like 3 seconds (it sounds like a fast hammering) pretty loud too.

Sounds like a worn timing chain tensioner. Happens only in cold weather, with cold engine? If it isn't there on warm engine start and goes away with warmer temps, I believe "putting up with it" would be your cheapest solution

If it gets worse, then there's a bunch of other threads about timing chain tensioner replacement that you can search for.

is it a rattle or a vibration?
After I lowered my car I have a vibration from the right front on accel between 20-30 mph and 60-up. While I was lowering the car the axle came apart inside the inner boot so Im sure its the axle but mines a vibration so I dont know if its the same problem. Good luck

Heres the video!: http://video.google.es/videoplay?doc...27871001881712

The first 5 seconds is when the hammering noise is strong, after the first 5 seconds you can still hear it alittle bit until 14 seconds, at 16 second i put my car in Drive (to get the rpm's exactly where i want them) then at the end (25+ seonds) the sound dissapears, the sound will come back if i hit the gas pedal till 800 rpm's (if im still) if im driving then it's (800~~1300)

BTW, the starting sound (first 5 seconds) started when my car was burning oil (if that helps) theres oil in the car so is not that, but maybe close?

Obviously something related to the engine.

Why dont you try and isolate the noise;
Remove AC/Alternator belt-Is noise still present?
Remove PS pump belt-Is noise still present?

If noise is still present with both belts removed it's something internal

my advice is to take your car to a reputable mechanic and have the car check properly

I'm not a mechanic but to me your car sounds like you may have had an oil problem ( ie: drove when it was low) and damaged something. It sounds like a cold diesel truck, I recommend getting it looked at by a mechanic before it gets worse, which I believe it might. Keep us posted.

The video really helps...

I just found the same issue on my car today. it sounded just like a deisel engine... It made the same sound on a cold start up, and went away after it warmed up. I was able to make the sound come back after it was cold but reving then engine for 5 seconds or so, and when it would go back down to normal Idle you could here it for a few seconds... but it was more faint then the first time i heard it on cold start.

A good friend of mine who is a european car mechanic thinks it could be the timing chain issue, but he thinks its too soon for the timing chain to be bad the since it has only 113k on it. He explained to me that the sound could be there when its cold because things have not expanded so the chain will be looser... With that being said, it's just a guess... We are going to see if it happens again tomarrow and listen to it with a s***hascope(sp?)...
I will keep you posted on what we find...

sound quality is kind of bad but sounds very much like a bad connecting rod bearing but what got me thinking is that you say that it goes away after a while and bad connecting rod bearings noise its constant and increase as rpm increase

my bet is something related to to engine valve train or timing chain

The first 16secs it's the valves we're earing. It sounds exactly like when I started mine a cold morning without noticing my oil pan leaking all over the floor. Check oil level when engine cold, check for leaks or anormal oil burning. Could well be realted to timing chain area.

My guess is timing chain issue, when i get close under the hood, it is coming from that general area...
Sounds just like the chain hitting the case sealing the timing chain... I will find out tomarrow when we listen with a scope....

Timing chain. Anyone done the water pump? Well if you remove the tensioner, after everything installed it sounds like that for a minute while the timing chain regains tension. You probably need a new timing chain tensioner or chain itself. Make sure the car has enough oil or take it to a mechanic...

mine makes that sound at startup for about 5 or so seconds when started from cold 80% of the time... I have 258km's on the clock so to be expected I guess .. hopefully I can safely ignore it if just tensioner
