cant see how those will fit once installed. If they do, it'll be a tight squeeze. looks nice though.

If I have to hack at something, it shouldn't be much. I downplayed the idea at first, but when I checked under the hood there seemed like there was actually quite a bit of space. I might have to cut out some stuff to make room for the solenoids though.

how is the light output? With it further into the housing, it can project just a little bit farther, than if it sat flush.

with this in mind, plus having to shift something around to get it to fit, I would have then seated in the middle of the housing.

I could be wrong...

Notice the line of glare above the cutoff... there is also a TINY bit of foreground clipping if it's aimed too low (haven't aimed them fully yet) and a TINY bit of width clipping, only on the "inside" side if you know what I mean. Since the housing is still chrome, it gets reflected off to the upper side and creates some more glare. I can deal.

I partially did this because the TL projector is actually TALLER than the inside of the housing. I'd have to hack the housings up a good deal in order to get 'em to fit (and some have). But I just decided to do it a different way. I definitely like the results better aesthetics-wise, at least. Hopefully fitment won't be TOO much of an issue.

After taking another look, it might actually fit without cutting anything. Just have to push a few wires/some loom out of the way and you're set. Hopefully.

More installed pics and pics of the backside of the headlight!! How did you mount the projector to the housing? Is it just JB welded?

ACTUALLY.... I just used a lot of aluminum tape. I'm using some long bolts to actually "secure" it/aim it using the aiming bracket. The tape will allow enough play to let me aim it with the bolts. I have some silicone sealant as well but I'm not sure whether I'll use it or not (very tight fit).

Will take some more pics a little later tonight after I work on it some more.

Looks good so far, but Im interested in seeing how much space you have left on the drivers side. There is a lot less space over there than the passenger side.

You can get more usable light if you move the projector inward more. Also, I would like to see how that will fit on the driver side since theres a battery right there. I have mine sitting 1" from the glass face and i dont see hot in the world you will be able to adjust let alone put a bulb in the back of that.

Eh. Barely. Like I said there's a bit of clipping on the inside and that's pretty much it.

The driver's side, however, has obviously proved to be a bit more troublesome. I can get it in there with the bulb and all, but the ballast/connector will mean that I'll have to move the battery or something.

Look's Clean

Not sure if it's been mentioned but what projectors are thouse FX's ? I know they aren't E46's what did you use for the front bezel/ besides the alumin tape? sticking around

Bought some 6500K and now need some Bi-projectors, tired of getting FlAsHed by idiots!! That and I want razor blades for cutoff lines.

I'm prob. going with TL's/TSX's or S2K's prob TSX's easier to come buy on a tight budget. I need to find a budget retrot install link

Looks good can't wait to see them finnished

Actually... I didn't use anything but aluminum tape. I made sort of a "collar" by sticking the tape to itself at the edge, and then used some more tape.

They're TL projectors. FXs are smaller.

So far: $530 for projos/bulbs/ballasts (you can ebay TL projos for ~$270, FX projos for maybe $170), $140 for a new set of CE housings, probably close to $80 in materials for the harness

TLs as you can see actually don't have a sharp cutoff. It's definitely there, but it's no razor. They do, however, give the best output/distance/intensity out of pretty much any projector out there, and the high beam is awesome. FXs are wider, TSX are sharper but less intense, and S2k are wider and sharper but also a bit less intense. Keep in mind TSX and S2K are only single xenon projectors.

I'd also recommend getting some 4300K bulbs for the retrofit. They'll give you better, whiter output and your lights will still look blue to oncomers because of the refraction properties of projectors.

Yeah, just did some homework on the TSX's S2K's and found the same thing (single beam) Bummer,

You did a nice job with the Alum tape then

Right now it's looking like pre-recall FX's or TL's something with a clear lense, no dimples or ridges. I love the clear lense projectors

I went with 6500K for color, their still plenty bright and I can see a gnats azz @ 1000 yards but when I get projetor lenes I'll move up to the 43-50 range

I'm doing my retro in stages, I got the HiD's balasts etc, then I picked up some clear housing on ebay, now its projector time, when I install it I'll convert my bulb's connector to D2S and I'll be ready to go.

Not the best cutoff pics right now but I can afford an FX mod or TL's on extream discount.

Update: Was going to put them on my car tonight (although the ballast wouldn't fit on the driver's side bulb). I was in the middle of connecting everything when the car refused to start. Well I had taken off both the positive and negative battery terminals to connect the harness, and in doing so I guess I either confused or fried the crappy clifford aftermarket alarm on the thing. So, I ripped all the extra wiring out of the car (still have those hella driving lights + CE fogs), removed the harness, put the stock passenger headlight back in (don't trust those dealer monkeys with anything) and took all the random crap I had laying in my car out. First thing tomorrow I call the dealer and a local place and see if either of them can rip the POS alarm out of the car that day and maybe reactivate the stock one (which I think recently has been getting confused as well). It has been a long time coming and I can't deal with this crap any more.

So, plans for the next few weekends after that: complete retrofit, install new suspension/bushings/boots, replace splash guards that are now dragging, and give the car a detail.

Sorry I didn't have a better update guys. But the honest truth is I haven't been taking great care of the poor car recently and I need to get it back up to snuff. Time to change the oil and tranny fluid soon too...

As of now, though, the poor thing is sitting helpless in my garage, driver's window rolled down (alarm deactivated that too), no grille or driver's headlight (OR driver's headlight connector, haha) and unable to run on its own power.

Well hey, at the very least, with a third bolt the projector is very secure in the aiming bracket...

So, $76.42 and one day later, I'm back in action.

I put the harness (which works flawlessly, nice little touch) in, and the passenger side headlight on/aimed the projector. Incredible. Those worried about output, the foreground limiter is visible (maybe 8 feet or so in front of the front bumper, I can't see it from the driver's seat) and I'd say there's a about 90 degree sweep of light. Cutoff isn't all that sharp compared to, say, S2ks or TSXs, but I actually like it this way. High beam is ridonkulous. And this is still all with a single light in.

Let me tell you, this is the first big thing that I've really entirely put together myself, including making the harness, retrofitting, having some guts to do it differently etc. It feels awesome to have fabbed something like this up that works in the car. The lights also make you want to speed a lot more for whatever reason, slight side effect I guess.

Well for those interested, I took some pictures:

Oh yeah, they're all using a single projector. And yes my left sidemarker light isn't in.

Too much.

$530 - projectors, bulbs, ballasts, shipping & insurance
$140 - CE clear/chrome housings
god knows how much, probably >$100 - other materials

In the end? All worth it. I don't even have to try not to think about it.

Another update: They're both in now. I had to do a little inventive battery-moving, but they fit. The car looks great, but I need to deal with a stripped screw hole (how did it COME that way!? CE quality... guess you get what you pay for?), reaim and slightly twist the driver's side projector, possibly seal 'em up with silicone (will be a PITA) and find a good place to mount the relays. I also need to deal with sidemarker sockets in the housings not a) being positioned right and b) working. Hopefully can transfer those over from the other housings.

Yeah, for serizzle yo. It looks great, when you turn 'em on the entire housing is lit up just the right amount. I've been driving around with my lights on and checking 'em out in reflective surfaces. Now if only my sidemarker didn't take the leap of death... $93 says the dealer. Anyone have an OEM one they want to sell me cheap? I almost want to look for a set of diamond cut corners to compliment the lights.... but I don't think it'd blend well with the rest of the car.

Thanks man. Considering it, but also considering just getting an OEM replacement from ebay or something. After the fit and finish of the CE housings though, I'm a bit hesitant.

I have "depo" brand replacement and it fits good but the glue that holds the rubber fails overtime.

It is cracked but looks OEM.

Alright, I think what I'm actually going to do is run sidemarkers but no bulbs in them. Looks a lot cleaner with the lights on when you're retroed I think.
