Hey I gotta Automatic to. Yea I kno everyone is always talkin about how much slower Auto's are than manuals...But if you ever race a car w/ a manual..chances are its a novice-intermidiate driver and you would win. Auto's never miss a beat. Plus you can get the VB Upgrade or Level 10 Transmission That makes your shifts firmer, faster, and eliminates downshifting. I am saving up to get one of these for 450.00. And trading in your car will proly be a biyatch..all the papers, bank, transfering, your mods taken off, searching for a new car, payments..blahblahblah....stick with your auto. If you live in a high-populated city, than your auto is the way to go.
Hope This Helps!!
I, too, have an auto. It wasn't by choice, my brother bought it and handed me the keys a couple of years ago when he bought his ES300. I've got one more year of payments so I'm sticking with it. I will definitely save up for Don's VB Mod and other future mods listed on my Sig.
Hey i love autos no shifting no clucthing! dont be mad be glad, props to 5 speeds they are faster but i like to crusie, and hey the VB mod with a couple of other mods and you will be good to go, Im happy i dont think i would ever get a stick unless it was a true sports car peace! represent the autos!!!

Hey...are you getting/do you have a VB Mod, AND a upgrade Chip ? The maxima manual says the auto tranny is already set to maximum performance...all we need is the VB Mod...right ??

People are talkin a lot of bull about the autos. The only problems with the auto is that they don't shift when you want them to.
I have the auto. I will do the VB upgrade eventually. There are probably torque converter upgrades as well.
With all the availble upgrades, air intake, exhaust, and pulleys, it is still a really enjoyable car. If you want to win race after race, get a Z...
It's only when I want the supercharger will the auto be a problem. By then, putting a new transmission won't be a problem...

RE: Auto is not a big deal...
I have an auto, so you can only think so much of this, which I understand. I actually think the automatic has MANY good parts to it, such as good-old plain cruisin. Lets face it, its just not a good. Deezo is right when he says you cant get it to shift when you want to, but you must consider this. When you pull up to a manual, he will start to smoke you, because of your car's slow shifts from 1st to 2nd. However, you will stay in 2nd and 3rd for MOST OF THE TIME (for most street-racing cases), and shifting will become less a problem as the car's good old POWER. YES, YOU'RE CAR IS STILL FAST! Plus, you can get so many mods for the car that you will be able to whoops some while WAVING WITH YOUR RIGHT HAND (AS OPPOSED TO SHIFTING)
. Manuals do have more raw power, but hey, there's always nitrous-oxide right? Think of how fast you'd go with a 50hp+ shot. The automatic is nice too when you say...try to drink and drive (think of what a hell fast food is with a stick-shift!?!?
Were I to buy my car all over again, I would buy an automatic. But that is just me, and all of the reviews you read here will be buy drivers who are happy with their cars. You need to be happy with yours, and is that involves buying a stick-shift - TRADE IN AND SAVE FUC!NG UP! GET THE CAR! You will be faster with a stick, but DON'T expect to rule the street...some automatics...NOT MINE...but SOME automatics...wouldn't you like to be that guy, waving with your free* right hand.
* = free unless drinking, eating, talking on a cell-phone, OR making POLITE gestures...
You know I'm just tryin' to be an A$$HOLE...and tryin' to help.

Re: RE: Auto is not a big deal...
I have an auto and i know that driving a stick around town here would get real old real fast, im in austin,tx, and there is way too much traffic, and though none of you my believe this, there are a lot of hills in texas, and i would rather stick with the auto, though vb mod would be nice...
What Vyrus Said...
Hey man very good points. But using any NOS will wear-tear and "ruin" your engine (so I hear)...I'd stick with the VB Mod for the auto tranny mod. Please tell me what you think

I agree with Deezo completely. Everyone constantly dumps on automatics, and usually for no good reason. An automatic Maxima, though in theory slower than a manual, doesn't have to be. There are a multitude of reasons why an auto can beat a manual, such as a failing clutch, a missed shift, bad engine rev matching, etc... A car is what you make of it. Maximas are fast, period. And while a 5 speed is good in some aspects, there are some very good reasons for having an automatic. I have driven both 5 speeds and automatics. This automatic Maxima is just as fast as my Galant VR-4 5 speed was, at least when it was stock.
As for shifting, you can manually move the shift lever, it responds when you do it.

RE: Craig Mack.
Don's VB Upgrade? Definitely worth the money. Someone I know had it done, and he says there is a noticable improvement in acceleration. Mainly the 1st to 2nd gear change is when you need it, and faster. Its worth every penny of the $450 it costs. Nitrous Oxide? Ruin you engine? Well, yes and no. If you are thinking of using it for street races everytime you pull a corner, you will ruin you engine. If you use it properly, clean the jets, check for leaks, it can be a great tool. Will it ruin your engine in the long run? Yes. Sooner or later, when you take those large 50hp shots (and only if you do), you are pumping more power into the engine than it can handle. You will have numerous problems down the road. But like I said, if you only plan to use it for occasions (maybe every other weekend or so), it is a great tool. You car's acceleration will improve into the low 6s with small shots. Nitrous is fun, and is taken care of properly (which requires a good bit of work), can be a REALLY good power source. If you take your car to tracks, its a must. Everyone you see there will have it. If you don't its really a waste of money because you will never be able to use its full potential. Just trying to help.

The other thing that makes the auto a little slower may be a taller gear ratio. It's probably one or two teeth on the gears but I don't think its a big deal. Then again, it could be only the 4th gear because my car hauls from a standing start and I am still running with stock 15's. I love it.
Did I win? Well according to Sprint, he kept thinking that I was getting off at various exits, so he didn't push as hard. However, in all of the distance that we traveled, he NEVER got in front of me. Mind you, this is a auto Max with 17's and an intake only at the time, vs. a 5 speed with a Y, a lowered suspension, CAI, and 18's. Like I've said before, and I'll say it again, its not always the car, sometimes, it's the driver.
Oh, and for the very basic JCWhitney NOS kit, technically, you don't need to change anything in your car, just check the compression in your car, install the kit and go. However, a tranny cooler, Don's VB upgrade and colder plugs are suggested, along with guages.
I have an auto just like you guys. I know the frustration that having an auto will give you. The automatic in the Maxima is definitely way too "soft" for most of us. I ordered(whenever I get it is another story) Don's VB upgrade already, that should give me a more aggressive, sporty shift that most of us want in the first place when we bought our cars. It definitely take more skills to drive a 5spd compared to our automatics. That is why you see more than a few incompetent 5spd drivers out there. Even though I have an automatic, I am willing to bet that I can probably drive better some 5spd drivers out there. That's why some 5spd will lose to an automatic given equal cars. If I was them, I would practice, practice, and practice some more until I am confident on my 5spd driving skills. Why even waste time driving a 5spd if you can't drive it right?
Having said all of this, I do wish I had a 5spd though. An automatic with an VB upgrade and maybe a high stall torque converter is good, but it's still not a 5spd. Even though I rather have a 5spd, I can still live with automatic for now. My next car, however, WILL be a 5spd.

i love my 95 auto...my question is how fast is our cars...i want to 0-60 times for stock, an auto w/intake + Exhaust, an auto with vb mod w/intake an exhaust...basically what will an auto's time be after mods(for a 95)...r&t and C7D say sooemthing like 7.6 and i thik one said 7.4 so what times will be exspected ??
