gxe = base with cloth seats

se = wing and white clock (sometimes leather roof auto-climate etc)

gle = luxury black clock and leather auto climate comes standard. roof is optional

Basically a gle is a gxe with all of the options.

ok, you about to step out of line here. all you had to do was look at the stickys and you would have found the answer. takes only 3 min. at the most. you have been on the boards for almost half a year and have made 96 posts. i would think in that 6 month time span you would have at least GLANCED at the stickes, even if it was by accident.

The fourth gen forum has been running real smooth for the last 2 months. dont disrupt the flow by getting angry at others when you dont bother to search.

If you are going to read that post... scroll down to post 35 (one of the only posts on topic of the thread IMO).

I think that that link was posted as a joke. But you are correct- post 35 has most of the needed information.

Does anyone have any info on the Australian Maxima models?

4th gen (i think it's 4th gen, same years at least) A32, 99 is an S4, they call it here, looks quite different in the rear to what you guys have, but it's definitely not a 3rd gen either! only engine was the VQ30DE (that's right, isn't it?)

Also the included options seem different, and model names are different. The GXE (base) is the 30G and the GLE (luxury) is a 30GV and has everything standard, heated leather, woodgrain all over, climate, bose speakers + 6 stack cd, sunroof, everything standard. Only option I can tell is the LCD tv (do you guys get that over there? 14cm flip out analogue tv).

Reason I'm asking, I'm looking at what seems to be a very good example of this car, and just trying to nut uot common problems with the A32 in general and just trying to best match it to what you guys have, to get the best idea

Here's a couple of pics of what they look like over here - thanks!

(not my car - i'm looking to buy this one though)

That is more of an I30 than a Maxima. Same A32 chasis, but different options and standard features. The hoods and interiors anre similar between the Au Max and the USDM I30.

It looks like a mix between the Ceifro and the I30. Not too bad looking but the US Maxima SE looks wayy sportier IMO.

Cefiro's are a mix between the I30 and the Max. that bumper is the Brougham bumper IIRC. the outside is the I30 but inside is that of a Maxima. Best of both worlds and more features to boot.

Awesome thanks guys!

Sounds like us aussies didn't get ripped off for a change (normally get the low power/non-sports versions of EVERYTHING).

The USDM SE would be sportier, having the kit obviosuly :P we do have a sports model too (the 30S) with kit etc, but I'd rather the goodies in the luxury model, and there's a whole lot of them!

More importantly, i can now at least look up common problems I was thrown by the differences in looks, normally you might have different lights etc but the whole back end as well as front bar is different on this one.

Pic of AUDM 30S Touring (USDM SE) for those curious

Maximas were'nt hugely popular over here so it's nice having something a little different For instance there's less than 10 30GV's currently listed on the 3 biggest online used car sites over here, also a grand total of 4 (yes, 4!) 4th gen max's listed for australia on cardomain (there's 250 something in the US IIRC).

The right colour, some big wheels and lowering and you got yourself a pimpmobile!

Different areas of the world may have different target markets.

Here the 30GV was priced to compete with the prestige versions of a couple of large local RWD sedans, to make the price add up they throw more features at iT standard, I guess they also toned down the exterior to make it more conservative.

I'm not sure how they positioned it in the US, but I'm guessing they pushed it as a slightly sportier car than they did here, hence the looks.

VI = MEVI

By the sounds of things i'd actually rather it doesn't have it, being a '99 and I'm a lover of movement off the line, but I'm curious

(i go all hardcore researching cars before I buy, hence my being here and knowing the market positioning, MEVI, etc, lol)

looks like a regular intake to me but i never seen a mevi so i dont take my word.

PS whats the hose in front of the V6 3000 cover behind the rad ? i dont have that

PS the engine looks in good shape, no rust on the rad mounts

i just realized that the break fluid is on the opposite side compared to my engine, basically there are minor differences

Could be some minor changes due to being RHD, would make sense I guess.

Oh another pure curiosity thing.

How do nissan market the Maxima and I30 separately? like is the I30 meant to be a premium model, or sports model etc? Just seems odd that they would have two cars basically the same but list them as different things!

nissan owns a brand called infiniti, its their luxury line, the i30 is made by infiniti it has more options that are standard instead of optional. the i30 (90% of the time) came with an auto tranny so its considered to be a near luxury family sedan, where as the maxima was frequently offered with a 5mt so it was considered to be more sporty (especially the SE models) the gle's are the maxima luxury equivalent

i30's only came in 2 trims with i30 and i30t (touring = sports) the main diff was the suspension is stiffer on the i30t ( same as maxima se)

does that make sense ?

Yep awesome

The top model maximas over here are considered luxury and most gear is standard if not all (although noone really takes Nissan luxury cars seriously, purely because they are Nissan), so I guess it would be closer to the I30. Given what I said before about the 30GV having everything standard, bar the tv, it sounds pretty close.

We don't have anything like the i30t, just the 30S (SE) which only has the basic trim level + bodykit.

Also I'm pretty sure that all max's here are auto. They had the 5MT in the base model 30J 4gen pre-facelift (96-97?) but it wasn't selling so they dropped the model and the 5MT altogether and replaced it with the auto only 30S (SE).

Newer models I can't really speak for, but I assume they follow the same trends. Current model usually driven by middle/upper-class blondes wanting a larger french style car... lol

The MAIN difference was that the I30t, when equipped with a manual transmission, had a viscous limited slip differential- something that USDM Maximas did not have on the A32.

Heh yeah

Except the backend on the 30S is still the same as the one i posted earlier, I assume the I30 still has the normal US tail.

I like the 30S fogs better than the I30 and the turn signal on the front quarterpanel (i would make it clear...then itd be nicer IMO)
