question about so-called "Performance chips"
question about so-called "Performance chips"
I just bought a 96 Maxima GLE (Auto-trans) from a buddy of mine that has an Injen intake and a Y pipe, as far as engine mods go. Another friend of mine told me that the ONLY other thing that I can do to increase the horsepower/ performance that would really do anything is to add a supercharger, but I can't really afford to spend a grand or more to do that. Will a so-called "35 hp booster" from ebay for $10 or so really work, or am I wasting my time trying to find a cheap solution? Any feedback would be fantastic. Thanx!
the IAT sensor is for diagnostics only. Rip it out, use a resistor, or run a functioning one its all the same.
If you cant afford much just get an AFPR and an SAFC. Add .5 bar of fuel with the AFPR and take it back out with the SAFC. You will advance the timming and gain power while tuning your car.

yeah...thats it.... what it does is trick the computer into thinking that the air is colder outside by sending a higher resistance. So what's gonna happen is that your car is gonna run richer which in turn COULD raise your horsepower. But believe me... you'll be filling the tank up alot faster then you are all ready. My advise....don't get it. Save your money for something bigger and better to bolt on to the motor because you'll just waste more money on gas then what it's worth. Plus...I've never tried it on the max... and i won't because the pump comes to quick already.

Jsutter. What's the deal with the vafc and safc? Why buy both and add/subtract the same fuel levels? I've never heard that before.

What are you talking about?
I think you should re-read what JSutter wrote. He didn't say anything about the VAFC....
ok, now im confused.
anyways, a friend of mine bought that resistor once and i decided id borrow it for a minute just for fun, the car didnt even start once i put it in. so, uhhh, no thanks for me

a real performance chip works. ebay $10 chips are balogna. they are garbage. morons with civics buy them and think their car is fast. i dont know what companys make chips for maximas cause i was never too interested in it for them, but for audi APR, GIAC, Neuspeed(i know they dont make anything but audi/vw chips), REVO....u can search google and probably find some companies...can even check if any i listed have chips for nissans...i dunno tho. oh yea and they dont cost $10...more like $500
A) the "chip" is a resistor like everyone says B) you really feel like testing it out? go to radio shack, go to the little rack with the resistors and leds and switches and whatnot. grab a resistor for like 99 cents, worst case scenario if you dont' like it / realize it doesnt work? you can't buy that jr bacon cheeseburger later.
My friend ordered that chip for his 97 max back in 99 when the chips first hit the ebay market. Yes it did somewhat help, but it might be placebo. His 0-60 was 6.9 before and 6.7 after. This was done at the track but no dyno. The only downside to this, he spent twice as much on fuel because his was running very rich all the time.
if you want more power and cheap.....one easy way is to put nitrous.....another way is to buy a bike...yes....thats what i decided to do....spend $3500 on a turbo....nah..just bought a bike instead..
