Air bag light blinking
Air bag light blinking
Ok so it started to blink after i took a sharp wide turn at a pretty fast speed. I was confused why it had done so, when I didnt hit anything or anything like that. I checked stickies and have tried to reset the air bag light by pressing the button on the door pillar a buncha times while the key is in the on position. I have tried this like 30 times, and it has done nothing. I did get it to blink differently with 1 short blink and 2 long blinks repeated, then it went back to regular short constant blinks after i tried to reset the light again.
Im not sure what else to do here.. any ideas?
Oh also this happand to me a while ago when someone backed into my car in the parking lot. I did the reset air bag light trick and it worked that time. Im wondering why its not working this time. I have front and side airbags in the seats if that matters.
Thanks,
Matt

Mine only comes on when it gets cold out. I have NO idea how that happens. But it will stay off for 6 months during spring/summer then the first cold night it blinks when i start it up. ANy ideas on that? I feel like taking the gauges out and removing that bulb haha

For the OP, dont even bother doing this procedure yet. remove the junk from underneath the seat first. You may have to reset the light after taking the junk out or it may go away on its own.

I'm sorry but I don't know where to ask expect here...
I also have 96 Nissan Quest van and the airbag light blinks, too.
Does anyone know how to reset? and is this airbag system same as Maxima?
thanks in avance...
Mod, you can delete this if you want... thanks

Try this procedure that works 100% of the time for me.
Get in car and leave door open.
Inset key and turn to ON, not start.
Immediately after turning key on press switch in door pillar 7 times in 10 seconds.
Start car without turning to Off first. (light should blink slower)
Turn off car and restart. Light should go out.

Bhunter... I pronounce you as Nissan God!
My Quest airbag kept blinking and Nissan dealer quoted me for $740 to replace sensors and some parts to clear that annoying airbag blinking.
After I’ve tried your method, my freaking annoying airbag blinking light is disappeared… I could not believe my eyes.
Your pillar switch trick worked exactly as you’ve described… first slow blink follow by no blinking after engine started.
I don’t know how to thank you as well as Maxima.org….. you guys are freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. this is 96 Nissan Quest.

I had a similar issue on my 98SE at around 85K km
It just started flashing one day while I was playing around with the power seat controls.
I was able to reset it using the procedure mentioned by 2da mizzax. It worked but then it came back again. I reset it again. It went away.
Then it came back and stayed.
BTW - 2damizzax, when you related the procedure for retrieving the codes you mentioned the results indictaing drivers side / passenger side issues. What about the side airbags. If his car is a 98Se like mine it probably ha sthe seat side airbags as well. Do you know the readout flash codes for those?
I can't exactly remember for sure, but when I got mine to read back it was something like two long/two short or long/short repeated. I check it out with a Nissan tech and he thought it was probably the drivers side seatbag. Apparently the wiring harness was an issue with those, not long enoght or somemthing and would becoome faulty when you manipulate the power seat too much.
I was told not to fix it, but I got so tired of seeing that flashing light in the dash, especiallyy driving at night -very annoying!
I bought a new side seat bag (the countermeasure harness NOT avail by itself -naturally). The bag cost me around 350 CAD.
Got my mechanic to install it and then still had the light since didn't have the consult tool to reset the code. Brought it to the dealer where I bough the bag and they were nice enough to reset the code for free.
Since then (approx 1 year) it came back one time, but I reset it and so far so good.
All the above just to draw attention to this issue with drivers side seatbag harness. Something you may want to look into if the ight comes back.

I didnt remove the stuff from under my seats and was able to get the light to stop blinking using this procedure.
Thanks everyone.
'98 was the first year for side airbags.... your air bag light blinking is most likely due to a bad side airbag control module, which happened to me a few years ago. If it is in fact that part, its expensive...
