Annoying little thing

It really bothers me that the lighter/charger doesn't work when the car is off.

Is there any way to change that?

put another battery in the car and wire it directly to that battery.

Well in that case why not run it to the main battery. A mobil isn't going to drain it.

Really, you only have two chices for constant electrical to your cigarette lighter: a) tap into a constant hot wire in your wiring harness or fuse box...avoid a high draw circuit or you'll be blowing fuses if using a high draw appliance in the lighter socket at the same time tapped device(s) are on or (b) actually run a heavy gauge wire from positive battery post along wheelwell, through firewall and behind console to lighter post...not recommended/no fuse/no safety!

Tap into the fuse box on the Hot side (use a multimeter or test light to determine which side is always hot) using a T-Tap. Run a wire from there to the back of the 12V socket. Put a fuse in-line. Prosper.
