This idea has been batted around on this forum. The general concensus is that it is possible but expensive. It entails more than exchanging two engines. To get the full 222 horsepower you would have to carry over the exhaust system, the Engine Control Module, and possibly some of the sensors.

If you are willing to go to all that trouble and expense you might prefer to swap in a VQ35DE from a current Pathfinder. That's a torquey 240 horsepower 3.5 liter engine which is similar to the engine which will be in the 2002 Altima and 2002 Maxima.

You might be interested to look at the Nissan Engine Catalog at http://freshalloy.com/

As an FYI, some current VQ powered Pathfinders put out 240hp and some put out 250hp. The 5sp Pathfinders put out 250hp and the auto Pathfinders put out 240hp, so if you have a 5sp and are going through all the trouble...

btw, the Pathfinder swap would almost definitely benefit with the electronics/ECU/harness from the donor vehicle as it has a variable intake that the 4th gen doesn't have a controller for (unless you want to rig something up).
