Roof rattles?
#1
My car was in an accident before I bought it. It has some minor problems inside that I find. But one thing that drives me crazy is when I have my bass turned up my roof rattles really bad sounds like a speaker is blown. If I press up on the roof while it does this, the sound goes away. Any ideas???

The only way to really solve the problem it seems is to remove the entire headliner and see what the problem is.
I'm an expert in removing and reinstalling the interior, but this is a part that even I was afraid to do. As far as I know nobody on this board has removed the headliner before. What you will want to do is get a friend and remove the panels necessary and drop the headliner. While youre at it, I would recommend sound deadening the roof to quiet things down a bid. Please email me for any further questions or go to my website.

I took the headliner out yesterday. It's not hard like everyone thinks. All you do is remove all the passenger handles that are on the roof. Also remove all the mouldings, the sunvisors and the rearview mirror. With all that out pull down around the edges of the headliner. Some clips will pop loose. There is also some velcro holding it up. Now slide the entire headliner backwards to slip it off some holders. (may be forward, I can't remember.) It's a PIA to get it out of the car tho, and you'll need to remove your passenger seat. Incase you're wondering, I bought a complete black int yesterday and I gutted my tan int and replaced it with the black. Any more questions and you can e-mail me or post here. I attached a pic of my car with the headliner/sunroof door removed.
**Almost forgot, you need to remove the dome light and the sunroof controls also.
Good luck

That's one thing I'll probably never take off I bought everything but the steering wheel and the dash itself. I replaced the glovebox, the plastic under the steering wheel the two vents up by the windshield and the two vents by the tweeters (on a 95.) I'm planning on dying the dash just like piopremier did. I talked to a guy at the salvage yard and he told me how to take the dash off if I need to. (I actually might to replace the far left and right vents. They don't pop out, you have to remove from the back) I'm two toning it right now I don't think it looks to terrible tho. Feel free to give me your opinions.

wow, that's totally crazy.
I was looking through the Haynes manual, and I saw the whol dash taken off in one piece. Looked pretty cool. I really think you should get that beige colored dash, black. It would look TOTALLY CLEAN and really really nice.
How much did u pay for all of the black interior accessories?

Turd, I need to pick up a Hayes Manual and see how involved the process is to take the dash off. If it's not to bad I might go for it. Total cost for everything was $900, which included seats, seatbelts, carpet, floormats, door panels, kick plates, center console, glovebox, headliner, rear deck, all mouldings and some misc vents and other black pieces.
How much do you think it would cost to sound deaden my whole car with say one or two layers of Rammat or equally good sound deadener?
Thanks
Ian

hm, 1-2 layers, and the whole car? well, excluding the floor, it should take you a good 3 rolls at least. That's about $180-ish ($60 for each 50sq ft roll).
But SWEETSOUND and I would advise to use more of an insulation carpeting type of material for the floor. It would be much more effective than a damping material.

I got you all beat.......
see that gym sock mod in my sig?
I just slid an old CLEAN stock between the roof liner and the roof by the rear window...and the rattles have all mysteriously disappeared
Took literally 15 seconds
