Its a sad day today.....****UPDATE*****
so it looks like the car that my g/f helped me get has crapped on me... what seemed like a sturdy solid car is no longer.... as i was going over to my friends work (ford dealership) the car shut off me once again ( i had posted a previous thread about this issue), this time it wouldnt start... I was able to get off on the exit, and pull into the dealership.. .and park slightly. my friend got out of work, and came by to see why I didnt pull into the back..visually on the outside of the engine nothing looks bad.... but as we turned it on again to get it into the garage, thats when we noticed the smoke... and the car is running like total ****... what bugged me was... the temp on the gauge in the dash never went up... nor did I get any codes or lights... its a crappy feeling to know that I cant fix this asap, my buddy thinks it could be gaskets, seals, piston rings, well any of those things.... we are gonna run a compression test tomorrow or this weekend hopefully... I dont know what to do... should I do a complete tear down of the engine... or overhaul it? or should I just get a new motor and swap it? what else do you guys think it could be? I hope I didnt crack nor bend anything.. I wont know anything til the weekend... as much as I would love to do the whole 3.5 swap.. I dont have all the money to do it. and right now I need a ride to and from work... i hate today...
*****UPDATE*****
Looks like the head gaskets messed up... theres water in the oil, and I guess theres water in the engine... they've suggested that I can either replace the head gaskets and see if that was the only problem the car had (risk it).... or tear down the block and take it to a machine shop so they can inspect it and see if theres any cracks... that will give me issue further down the line... what do you guys think??? how much does it normally cost to get the blocked looked at/gaskets everythign I'd need to have it back to what it was before?
If its more than $300, I'd just forget about it... and just go for another hundred or so dollars get another engine with lower miles and swap it out... is that more feasible?
Or should I actually take the time... and buy a 3.5 block and just build it little, by little until its ready?
Any suggestions?

I have yet (operative word here) to see the deck of a VQ but on every motor I've seen so far, HG failure could allow oil, coolant, both or neither to enter the CC. Only oil to be burned is past the rings, valve stem seals, or a crack in the block. Compression test and leakdown would be a good first step.

VQ30s can be had for $200-$500, DEKs for $350-700 and VQ35s for $600-900. If you were not planning on heavy modding at this time I would just swap the VQ30DE. Low cost and low downtime. I would NOT jump into a DEK or especially not into a 35 if this is your only transportation or time is a factor.

To answer your other question, replacing the head-gasket will be the same if not more labor than pulling and dropping a new VQ in. Have a TX meet at your house and swap it in with some members. Free beer after the install = win.
