Transmission Temperature Sensor

I was wondering...has anyone ever tapped into the stock transmission temperature sensor and created a gauge for it??? This is an idea that I'm thinking about tackling and I wanna just see if it's been done b4. I tried to do a free search but no luck. Thanks...

Tranny coolers are not very expensive and not very difficult to install.

yo freeway...are you OK??? The cooler is a piece of cake, I understand that.
How about a TRANNY TEMPERATURE GUAGE!!!!

Interesting, never thought of trying that. Saw it when I swapped my valve body then got a new solenoid pack, but didn't put a second thought into finding an alternative use for it...

I did this for my ECT.

Not sure but the FSM should have 4 pr 5 values.

Typically temperature with respect to voltage.

Make a curve, tap the signal, attach gauge,
Profit?

I used my PLXR300 to decipher the signal to something usable (*F)

It is a curiosity for me too, though I doubt I'll ever get a gauge on mine. I wondered since the ECU (or does our AT have a separate TCU?) already monitors the ATF temperature if some kind of scanner could extract this data without having to mess with the sensor.

I am curious for two reasons:

1. Let's say the ideal operating temperatue for the AT is between 160f and 180f, I'd like to see exactly when it gets hotter than this. I know it will be hot in warm weather creeping in traffic with TC unlocked, but how hot?

2. I'd like to know at what temperature the TC lockup begins to operate. The controller keeps the TC unlocked to warm up the transmission, or at least that is my interpretation of the behaviour I observe.

If you look at the schematic...there is a TCM that controls the tranny.
You should be able to monitor the temps with a scan tool like the snap on scanner or the Consult II.

I do the same thing. I would assume it would be the same principle.

I'd check the FSM for a voltage/temperature chart, but I'm going to bed.
