Killed tranny lastnight

Well I killed my tranny lastnight....
Myfriend called me and told me he bought a 2003 Sentra SE-R V-spec
and wanted to show me..
He came over and we talked yada yada.. car was nice man...

Well after awhile he started trying to bash the maxima....
Well he hit the nerve from being so cocky, I said let's go...
We went to my friends (private road) "NO TRAFFIC OR HIGHWAY"
Nice black tar turf/brand new

Anyway we lined up.. took off, he held with me to 1st, then the max left his @$$.... well, he couldnt believe it, and wanted to go again... I accepted,
we lined up, "Im an Auto" when I stoped to line up I hit the gear selector and moved it right between N & D "ON ACCIDENT" AND Floored it, car didtnt move and a bang followed by a constan grinding... she's gone even in P I can push the car foward like it would be in N ..

But just wanted to let everyone know my dumb@ss stuck up for the maxima name, beat the the sentra se-r v-spec... but lost the tranny...
Oh well you live and you learn!

Yeah, not a good idea to neutral drop until you're up to a 5sp swap.

Good job showing the Sentra who's boss though. Owned by an auto Maxima... oh snap!

wow i didnt think he neutral dropped it but after reading it looks like he did. my transmission is going out and from a stop it actaully feels like its kinda in neutral (when its in drive) and when i press the gas it starts moving forward slowly and then BANGS into gear as if i was neutral dropping it...i hope i dont get stranded somewhere, i've got a couple more runs to make

I'm calling Bravo Sierra on the RWD swap maxima until I see pics. I know a thing or two about cars (have done engine and tranny rebuild, plus one frame-up resto of a Brono) and I know for a fact that you'd spend much more money converting a max to RWD (converting = re-engineering) than you would spend on buying an equivalent speed rwd car.

Just think of the engineering problems you'd have to overcome... If you use the VQ engine and rotate it to be inline instead of transverse then your throttle body is goung to point at the firewall. What tranny do you use with it? Why would you go to all that trouble and use an auto? What rear axle/diff do you use and how do you mount it? The stock steering rack is attached to firewall - in the way of a RWD tans. You'd have to replace it with a steering rack that goes under the engine ahead of the front knuckles - meaning new knuckles that have the steering arms at the front not the back. The stock fuel tank would be in the way and have no 'tunnel' to allow a propshaft through. The floor of the car does not have a transmission tunnel.

SO, with all this said (and that's just what I could think off the top of my head in 30 seconds) there is no way on God's green earth that you can economically convert a maxima to RWD. Not gonna happen.

Of course, with enough $$$ anything is possible. But who's gonna spend that kind of money. I have to believe that you're going to be either spending enough money to buy a 350z, or enough man hours that you could have instead gotten a part time job and made enoguh $$ to buy a 350z.

Pics or BS.

Ok just wanted to let everyone know,

I "DID NOT" drop my car from N TO D...
I did not rev it up in N and trow it into D..

"Im an Auto" when I stoped to line up I hit the gear selector and moved it right between N & D , Floored it" Thinking it was in D but it was in the middle of D and N..

This was an "ACCIDENT"

It wasn't an 'accident' in terms of claiming on your insurance. It's just a mechanical failure, which is considered normal wear and tear. Especially if you race people.

I feel bad for ya man - I'm not getting on you, I drive 'with enthusiam' myself. Just saying that your insurance won't call it an "accident"...

heres a note to everyone wanting to convert to rwd, its not cheap, not reliable, and not fun doing. unless you find a conversion kit for maximas do not attempt.

Well I got the max back today!!! Ended up paying less and returning the tranny I bought... My tranny allready in the max was fine!
Come to find out, I broke the passenger side axel in half.
I also broke what the guy called "The Half Shaft"
So my total for a brand new axel and half shaft + install & tranny flush = $359

I neutral dropped an Audi GT4S many years ago. 4 hours later I finally got home after having had to walk 3 miles to a farmhouse to use their phone. (before cellphones were affordable) then waiting on a wrecker out to the boonies. It was the CV joint on the outboard end that was busted. $250 later I was back on the road.
