Are the OEM bolts b/w the y-pipe and the cat fused onto the cat's body? I can make out the nut on the y-pipe side (yeah it's badly rusted), but on the cat side, it looks like there never was a nut there. Pounding the bolt from the cat's side does not budge it, so I was thinking they are fused/welded onto the cat? Can anyone confirm?

slava....you're a victim of rust, my friend. get an exhaust shop to torch those babies off. It should not cost you more than 20-30 dollars to have an exhaust shop torch them off and install new hardware.

Thanks! I just got the y-pipe hanger a few days ago. Today was the first warm day, so I put a new muffler on the car (it doesn't sound like a truck anymore ). Wanted to get the y-pipe hanger on as well, but oh well, RUST! Will swing by the shop to get this done. I just didn't know if the bolts are welded onto my cat as well.

Find a small exhaust shop in your area and talk to them about what you need done because most should be able to do it. Then spray on some no seize stuff to make your life easier later on. I just had it done last month for 38 dollars (kinda expensive but better than what another shop quoted me).

the threading that hold up the y-pipe is on the headers and those are wedged in pretty good, I dont think they are welded in, but there are in there good. I'll check my spare set of headers in the garage in the morning, I believe its the same story with the cat.

if you have a dremel and a cut wheel you can make some delicate cuts in the bolt and free it without taking it to an exhaust shop.

no there 2 screws next to crossmember that hold up the heatshield to the ypipe there 12mm bolts x2 then unbolt the section from the cat 14 mm bolts use a 1/2 drive ratchet youll get alot more tourqe to get them off you just have to take your time
