No CAI, other options?

No CAI, other options?
i did my full exhaust from the y to the muffler. originally i didnt upgrade my intake because i heard you may actually lose power with some aftermarket intakes. so i stayed with the stock box and dropped in a hiflo filter (fram airhog). i dont wanna worry bout hydrolock or cutting a hole in my fender...
1. would a non-cai intake boost the power/performance of the car? (most people get fooled by the sound thinking its actually faster) i would like some substantial evidence if possible. if so how much estimated gain would i be looking at?
2. also if question 1 applies (meaning u do gain power) what are good options? i was looking at the frankencar intake but it seems it may be currently backordered.
thanks

I think maybe people should add a VIM of some sort before thinking of adding an aftermarket cone style intake.
Yes power can be gained. IMO, the power gained is not worth the horrendous ricer wail.

You would't be cutting a hole in teh fender, it's actually right next to teh
battery tray.
When I had my Stillen Hi-Flow I noticed more gains low end.
I also have a Frankencar Intake, you'll get better flow with teh Stillen.
battery tray.

yes you do cut a hole, but it's next to teh battery tray next to teh fender.
Teh filter ends up being in teh fender well, but haven't experienced any water issues with it being there.
Nmex: I have no data, it's what I feel when driving at WOT I feel & experience teh difference.
So you can keep eating your , LOL.

Well when I first got my Max I just did the poor mans intake (HAI with just a cone filter replacing the stock airbox). The low end sucked soooo bad. I just went back to stock. Now I have a PR style intake and I cut a hole in the fender and bought a $75 X series K&N filter. The low end came back with a vengeance but top end is so-so. However, with a full PRCAI you get a quick delay when jumping off the line. It's really like a half second and then all your power kicks in. I don't like that and I might end up putting my stock midpipe back on just because of it.

yea i dont wanna do any holes in my fender. and so cai is kinda outta my choices, i was just wondering if the "hybrid" ones like frankencar were any good. they are basically extended short ram intakes? well whats next best after a tru cai

You don't even see teh hole...it's under teh fuse box.
Might aswell just stay stock w/K&N drop in.

i have a short ram intake its a velocity stack from bp initiatives and a k and n 7 ince cone filter if i had to guess i probably gained a few horsepower nothing big but better than loosing or gaining nothing

The box seems to make more power since it gives the motor an air reserve for that "first burst of air" that it needs when taking off. If you use an aftermarket smooth midpipe then it takes that feature away and it bogs a little on takeoff. At least with me it does.

Too many threads...
I'm not sure about that whole "burst of air" or "Reserve air" theory. Unless you have your intake vacuum sealed, there's going to be air inside, and the amount of air there is going to stay the same unless somehow your engine sucks in air so fast it temporarily creates a space in which there is no oxygen...
As far as the hole in the fender and the cai, it looks like this:
Dirty, but:
With battery removed:
With Battery, Pipe, and fuse box pulled back/removed:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but i don't believe our ECU's "learn" per se, they have pre-programmed maps to go by, and it would also explain why people upgrade their ECU's when they go with more advanced and powerful fuel and air induction systems (Boost of sorts)
It's a good idea to disconnect the negative terminal on your battery when working on the car, which will reset the ECU but I don't believe its necessary to do afterwards

People upgrade their ECUs because the stock ECU adjusts timing, etc. according to to the readings from sensors. However, the upgraded ones have set parameters for most power across the board. I have noticed our ECUs try to compensate for changes and sometimes it will drive good and sometimes it will seem slow. After resetting the ECU it seems fine again.

i didnt plan on resetting it?? i did it after i installed my y and catback but i didnt know it was that magical? lol
EDIT- im not even going to tell u guys wut i found in the large valve cover breather hose....***
