Knock Sensor
just a quick question.. ebay lists them 65 shipped... published auto parts websites lists upper 100's.. ??? ugh i hate ebay.. they are very misleading and tend to "lure" you in with prices.. is there such thing as a "cheap" oem knock sensor? if its advertised OEM maxima knock sensor.. is it the same thing as the published sites?

Just got mine from the same link.

I ordered on sunday and just got it in the mail.1 day shipping FTW. By the looks of it, it looks OEM NISSAN, will try to install b4 starting work today. Here is a pic of it.

Relocating the Knock Sensor
Ok! So I know have the knock sensor from ebay (for around $60). Called up a few mechanics to do the installation and most say that they don't work with parts supplied by the customer. A few do, but they are quoting in the $200s for replacing the knock sensor since it is under the intake manifold.
Called the dealer just to check on their charges. The dealer says that they can just disconnect the existing KS (without removing it) and install the new KS in a diffenent place in the engine block so that there is no need to take out the intake manifold. ($280 including a new KS)
This seems like a good idea. Has anyone tried relocating the KS to a more accessible place? Any suggestions on where? Tried to get some info from the dealer but he is not giving out much info.

it isn't that hard to change the sensor. just need a 12mm socket and a long extension. it just took me about 1/2 hour to change mine. the hardest part is puttin it back in. i did it without removin any other thing on the engine.

I have to replace mine too and you made it seem easy. Do you have any directions as far as where it is?

Relocating seems a much easier alternative. Just leave the original in place, just disconnect the harness, connect the new KS and mount it at a more accessible place in the block. I'm just struggling with whereelse to mount it. Seems that the dealers are taking this approach these days.

Don't re-invent the wheel, just sockets and extensions + 20mins=Job done!

read the FSM, any nissan dealer will read the EXACT same FSM if u get the work done there, it tells u to remove the UIM so u can torque down the KS properly, the bloody method every one else on this site is using (including me this coming saturday) is wrong none the less, its impossible to get it torqued down correctly, so what happens ? the sensor is either more sensitive then it was designed to be (too tight) or not sensitive enough (not tight enough). its a hit or miss kinda thing.
for those who have no patience, knowledge, money or whatever else it takes to pull the UIM and do it right, this is the only way to replace it. Please do not relocate it anywhere!
