Can water in the gas tank cause intake backfire??

im asking because my car has had A LOT of intake backfire, and i cannot seem to find the cause of this problem, then i remember a damm rainy day that i stopped at a gas station and filled the tank. (no roof BTW) and my mechanic told me that could be it, so im asking you guys... thanks

no, its because you flooded the pistons with fuel.... that's all no need to worry!
